Spinoff thread - why can't Nascar and Formula One fans get along??

The F1 cars are slow???? In acceleration and braking they beat the pants off a stock car any day. Also the G-forces that the drivers feel as do a quick left and right would give anyone a neck ache by the end of the day.
F1 is 5Gs vs 2Gs of Nascar. *okay just say your disclaimer. That I will give on NHRA..lol...but can they turn left or right at those speeds?

Also F1 has no refueling. What gas they have at start of the race is what they have for the whole race.

I like how they have to pick their lines making turns, choosing the right apex through a corner, choosing the right braking point all of that leads to a faster time.

Also ever watch an F1 pit stop? If you blink you will miss it! Its that fast.

Also a biggie, F1 does run in the rain

The F1 race in Austin TX this past year was packed even for the practice and qualifying sessions. If they can maintain that has yet to be seen but it shows how much those in America have wanted something like this.

yes, F1 cars ARE slow, compared to NHRA cars, which run 320-330 mph in 4 seconds or less; however, you have a point, they don't have to turn, lol. i've never seen a F1 car top 200, because by the time they manage to pick up decent speed (160 mph +), they come to another curve. i'd really like to see F1 run wide open, without the curves. yes, i agree, their pit stops are amazingly fast; makes nascar look ridiculous, lol.

Yes I will concede your point about speed compared to a dragster..lol
Then again dragsters can blow their whole fuel supply in that 4 seconds, not very environmentally green :rotfl2: Then again what racing is? And no I would not go pay to see a race of Prius's......well maybe if was demolshin derby :lmao:

now THAT i might just pay to see! :lmao:

in all seriousness, though, i think the reason i enjoy NHRA so much more than F1 or nascar is the fact that the races are so short. i have a pretty short attention span, but even i can't get bored in 4 seconds or less.

That's why qualifying is a show in itself. There's as much strategy, intrigue and excitement in qualifying as there is in the race. If you don't watch it you are literally missing half the show.

Yes I agree qualifying can be exciting to watch. Watching the time and being the last one out and put down a fast time before time is up.
Last year at MidOhio race track, Indy used the same qualifying set up as F1 does. Using 3 heats to determine the pole.

Were you there? This was our view, up in the top of the pagoda overlooking the esses, guests of Cadillac Racing. Best seat in the house!

My fondest memories as a child is going to watch the Indy 500 qualifying trial. But I dearly loved the midget car races we went to every Sat. Of course, it's probably due to the fact that it was time that I got to spend with my dad!

Completely an apples & oranges comparison. F1 has automatic jacks, tire changers at each wheel, and only one "nut" per wheel. NASCAR can only change 2 tires at a time, uses a hand-operated floor jack, requires removal & replacement of 5 lug nuts per wheel, refueling, making chassis adjustments (in 2 different spots) as part of it. A NASCAR pit stop is all about athletic prowess. An F1 pit stop is "meh" by comparison as there simply isn't much going on. Additionally, the pure chaos of a yellow flag NASCAR pit stop is tremendous action. There is nothing else like it in motorsports. Incidentally, the "quick" pit stop is purely a NASCAR invention - specifically that of Wood Brothers Racing. They were the first in any form of motorsports to elevate the pit stop to an important role in racing, and not coincidentally were copied by Indy & F1 teams alike :thumbsup2

Also a biggie, F1 does run in the rain

That's been discussed by NASCAR on many occasions. In a normal high-speed oval, the physics just don't work with rain tires. They do run on rain tires when the Nationwide cars run on the road course in Montreal, but as is usually the case with Grand Am (and often F1), the result is pretty comical.:lmao:

My folks have a place just a few miles from the track. I'd love to go down there, but they scheduled it during our deer season :(
