Spinoff of Middle Names-Confirmation Names

I think mine is Mary or Maria. My confirmation sponsor was my sister, Maria, so I think I chose her name.

Mine is Margaret. It was my maternal Grandmothers first name and I did it to honor her more than anything else.

Anne. With an e. The E was really important to me. I liked Anne of Green Gables a lot.

I chose my my mothers middle name: Elizabeth.

To tell you how serious my husband was about choosing a name - he chose the name Vincent so his initials would be RSVP! (Not that anyone uses their Confirmation name.)

Mine is Katherine, after my grandma. DS16 is preparing for confirmation this year. The letter we received said that if students have a saint's name as their middle name, they should use that as their confirmation name. I believe they could choose another name if they wanted, but that is what is preferred. That is definitely a change from when I was growing up when everyone chose a new name.

Mine is Margaret too - after my paternal grandmother, who was also my sponsor and godmother!

I was just going to ask if anyone still did this. My daughter was confirmed last year and they did not have confirmation names.

I went through RCIA, so no confirmation name for me either.

They still do in our parish. My daughter was confirmed last year too. Not only did they have to choose a name, they had to explain in front of the class a little bit about their chosen saint and why they made the choice they did (and the ones attending the Catholic school had to write a paper on their saint for religion class). DD practically obsessed over the assignment but I don't know that all the students took it quite so seriously. A ridiculous number of the boys chose St. Sebastian, patron saint of athletes and archers, because it was so easy to explain and because tween boys are unduly impressed by a graphic martyrdom.
