The Spider man ride at IOA intrigue's (sp?) me. I want to ride when we go in June. However, my wife does not like thrill rides with large drops. She's fine on BTMRR, Alien Encounter, Dinosaur, etc. But she will not ride Splash Mountain, Space Mountain or ToT.

Here's my question, the Unofficial Guide states that there is a 400 foot sensory drop at the end of the ride. Can anyone describe this? Is it a real drop ala the ToT or is it a simulated drop done with the 3D effects? A combination of the two? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is no real drop. It is all "effect". If you look to the side instead of straight ahead you will not even feel it. The ride vehicles travel along the level floor and are limited by the motion possible to a simulator ride. You can spin, tilt and raise and fall a small amount.

damo described it beautifully. It's all sensory effects. Nothing really intense but very COOL!! You really need to ride Spider Man a few times in order to take in all the special effects. It will be one of your favorite rides. I promise!!!

I do not especially like the drops on those rides either, but I LOVE Spiderman!

Hey (again) bengalfreak,

As damo said, it's all an effect, albeit one done really well. I consider Spiderman among the best attractions in all of Orlando. It's one of the few attractions where I left wondering "How'd they do that?"

Have fun on your trip.

Len

I too am a big "drop" chicken.......... won't do anything that drops!! This ride like Damo said, does not drop. I LOVED this ride, it is really cool. She'll love it!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great trip!!

As everyone said, it is all effects. If your wife doesn't like what she is experiencing, all she has to do is close her eyes. You must ride Spiderman many times to take it all in. I guarantee, she will learn to love it. It is one of the best attractions anywhere.

It is accomplished by the car tilting forward a total of 11" (the rear raises up) and the video image rushing upwards towards the ride vehicle.

Look at the manhole cover in the video it says, "Not an Exit" on it.

The weirdest thing to me about this ride is that I can never remember what was said. There is so much visually going on that my brain can't focus on the soundtrack until the very end of the ride.

I have done that. I've looked to the side, past the screens, and that has really thrown my equilibruim out of whack. The same thing has happened to me on BTTF if I look at cars in above/below me. :o

I read somewhere if the motion gets too intense for you (as in nausea- especially on BTTF) that looking to the side will actually help. Does that really work?

Not necessarily. I have done that, just to try it, and it's messed me up. Probably because your senses and the film feel like they're moving, yet you see things that aren't, which can cause an overload.

Hi folks

I have another Spidey query.....

I use a manual wheelchair and know I'll have to transfer if I'm going to go on this ride. (I've looked at the disABILITIES forum without much luck.)

Are the ride vehicles the same as the ones on BTTF, i.e. enclosed with a big, difficult climb in? I did manage BTTF but not without a lot of help and struggling... plus it was ten years ago and I'm not so nimble these days! :(

I'm hoping the seating will be like Star Tours, but I think it's wishful thinking.

Any help will be appreciated!

Thank you! :sunny:

It's more BTTF-esque than Star Tours. But it's easier to get in. There's no climbing into the car, you just shuffle across into the row when the gates open.

Also like BTTF, there is a closing door. And there is no roof. ;)

There's a chance I can do it ! :Pinkbounc

That's very helpful, thank you! :)

On our trip in march saw a disabled guy with family use the ride and the only real problem was backing his chair back out of the line so u should be fine:jester:

The first time I did the ride there was a fault and some of the effects were not working. There are no big drops - it really is all visual and as has been said if the eyes are closed, the sensation stops apart from moving around a bit in the seat.

I closed my eyes during the sensory drop for at least a year. After seeing the cars as they travel the track on the travel channel I realize they never reach more that 15' off the floor. It helps too to look at the ceiling to get your bearings.
