Spending the night in the Castle...

Well since there is so much interest in all these questions...we've decided if we win...we will sell our trip report on ebay...so stay tuned! :smooth:

Hee hee...I bet that before-mentioned video would sell on ebay as well

At first I thought it would be creepy too, but I'm guessing since it's a castle there must be a staaaaaaf (English accent). I wantn an extra buff Aladin in his costume as my butler

The comment about the refillable mugs and pool hopping ... :lmao:

even though my princesses are 23 & 29 we would still love to sleep in the castle i'm sure it will be much more modern since the apartment was build in disneyland and if not i hope they use plastic dishes i would hate to break a tea cup!

You people are killing me here! My boys are wondering why I'm laughing so hard! :rotfl2:

I'm in the the MK at night would be creepy. Yes, my daughter and I both read "Kingdom Keepers" and the thought of Small World at night is a bit frightening.

That's where they'll stick the families that are obnoxious and hint around for the castle room or demand they're more "worthy" than actual winners ;)

I also wondered about honeymooners making whoopie video tapes in the castle.

Ok, could you imagine telling your child this after they've grown up. I could just see the response..."I was conceived WHERE?!"

If the baby turned out to be a girl at least you would have an easy choice for names. CINDERELLA all the way! :thumbsup2

The ULTIMATE Disney souvenir!!!!

(love that commercial!!!!)

Tooooo funny -- I'll grab my refillable mug and hope one of our DISers wins so I can read the trip report!

I just thought of this while reading this thread...bet they have you sign some kind of confidentiality agreement and that you wouldn't be allowed to take any pictures in order to keep it a surprise for all the 365 winners. Bet we don't get to read about it until after the promotion is over.

I also thought too that the apartment may not have any windows, or that they would be painted over with a "tromp l'oeil" picture in order not to have you spying on the activities after hours, maybe even soundproofing for the EMH nights. What about grad nights and such when there is special events on?

Hmmmmm...

This thread is hysterical!

But on a more serious note, if the prize is truly limited to four people what would happen with larger families?

Great questions everyone!! Very funny!! :teeth:

My thought: If a CM of some sort does stay there to make sure you're ok and tend to your needs, where is he/she sleeping????? :confused3
:rotfl2:

what if my hopper pass has just run out? Would I end up with a free day (morning after) in MK? I wonder if they'd be willing to allow you to add DDP to that, or would they insist you should have booked the package?

Disney is hashing out details of castle stay

Cinderella fans must wait a while longer before learning details of what a night in her castle might be like -- and then wait until January for a chance to win such a visit.

Walt Disney World officials say they haven't worked out many details about the part of their big, new, yearlong promotion that is piquing imaginations: a chance to spend the night in the royal chamber at Cinderella Castle.

"Oh my gosh," said Brandee Foxworthy of Longwood, whose daughter, Ella, was named for the fairy-tale princess. "My first thought was, in what way could we increase our chances?"

That's yet to be answered, along with: How will winners be picked? What will the suite be like? What will visitors do after the park closes?

Craig Dezern, a marketing vice president, said those details still are being worked out. Even the apartment is only a shell right now, with planners discussing how to turn it into a royal chamber.

For that reason, it won't be ready for occupancy until January, even though Disney's "Year of a Million Dreams" promotion begins Oct. 1.

The single-floor apartment is about 10 stories up, where the main structure of the castle ends and the spires climb on their own.

Some say Walt Disney ordered it as a family suite, but he died in 1966 and castle construction didn't begin until 1969. Some say Walt's brother, Roy Disney, planned it, but he died in 1971, weeks after the Magic Kingdom opened.

The room was never finished.

Jerry Aldrich, a Disney official from 1971 to '98 before leaving to start Amusement Industry Consulting in Orlando, has been in it several times. He said it wasn't even drywalled.

Until now, Disney found less than royal uses for the apartment. At times the space was used as a radio room, a telephone switchboard operators' room and a greenroom, where entertainers could change or relax.

Like many Disney and Cinderella fans, the Foxworthys can't wait.

"We would be over the moon to spend time in the castle and have special pictures and memories of that," Brandee Foxworthy said.

We will be in WDW during the first week of "The year of a million dreams" and were VERY disappointed to read that the overnight stays will not begin until Jan.

Might have to plan another trip for next year......

I agree with the poster who wants Alladin for her butler. Count me in! :lmao:

What is the Creeper's thing that people read? Is it a book or something on-line?

I have no interest in spending the night in the castle, but this thread sure is fun!

Obviously some nights would be much better than others! If the noise at Grad Night bothers people in monorail resorts I would think the noise in the castle would be deafening!

I agree that there will be serious restrictions on what you can do and where you can go, and I also agree that there will probably be a confidentiality agreement to keep winners from telling all the details.

The logistics are bound to be more complicated than Disney realized when they announced the prize. What if you win the night before your flight home? Will they send Magical Express to the castle for you? We had a flight out of MCO at 6 AM once. Our Town car came at 4:45 AM (that was rather unpleasant).

When I lived in Tampa we would drive over to MK for the day sometimes. Will they give you a toothbrush if you don't have any luggage? Since everybody is eligible just by being on property things are bound to get very interesting! They can't choose only on-site guests, so they won't know the circumstances of many winners. It will be fascinating to watch! popcorn::

That article was helpful to read - thanks to Crazy4wdw for helping out others that aren't in the Orlando area on a full time basis.

But I have one stupid question -- does anybody else think Disney wouldn't have released the info without knowing all the problems first?? It seems like a company that works things out well in advance -- I find it a little weird that they made such a HUGE announcement and still don't have the small details worked out. I thought their legal department would have this worked out LONG before the announcement. Seems like they do that for the rest of things.
