Spelling: Do you try to spell words correctly or ....

I'm glad I'm not the only one so anal about spelling. I think part of it comes from being a secretary as well and not having any kind of spell check growing up. I worked for attorneys before word processing so unless you wanted to re-type a whole document, you triple-checked your work. I also think it comes from doing a lot of reading as well. I'm big on grammar, too, and when my kids were little it was SOOOOO hard to resist trying to correct their papers all the time.

I have to admit, though, that if there are a lot of words misspelled in a thread, I tend to discount it. I don't mean occasional misspellings or typos, but every day words that are very easily spelled. Arggh.....it's just a pet peeve of mine.

Time for me...I agree with you. I really try not to judge people with the incorrect spellings but out in the real world I am the same way also. It is one of my pet peeves also. I am not perfect and I do have to edit.My dh is a horrible speller as well as my two step dd's.I hope and pray that my own dd will be good at spelling.I AM horrible at punctuation though.I always have been and always will be!!

(the bad part about spell check is that my dh thinks IT is wrong and will not make corrections!!) My dh used to post under my name and I was so embarrassed that someone would think I wrote it, I created his own account!!

I could care less.

I'm studying to be a teacher. If I have to hand in a paper, I proof before handing it in. If I'm grading a paper, I may or may not take spelling into consideration. Here on the DIS, I just type and send.

I know the difference between no and know, their and they're, and all the other often misused words, but sometimes I just use the wrong word. I have no idea why, it just happens. Sometimes I'll edit it, sometimes I won't. Depends on if I'm bored or not. LOL!

As far as spelling correctly here -- I could care less. As long as I understand what someone is trying to say, that's all that matters to me.

Now, on the other hand, if you come in my house and leave the counter tops in my kitchen sticky, or you don't put the flashlight back where you first found it, I'll go crazy! Those are just a few of my pet peeves.
