As someone who cruises typically 2x a year I was curious as well if anyone did the math on them… There are, sometimes, some okay rates.
Did you see anything better than $11? I checked another cruise (Jan 22, 2027, 7-night Eastern on the Dream) a little more carefully and got $11 this time. Not completely terrible if someone were to use AUL-S or other cheap points, and it's a nice way to avoid the hassle and taxes of renting out points. But adding up the Costco shop card, CC cash back, the 10% placeholder booking discount... I'd still personally avoid the trade-in offer.

I believe it was a couple of charts ago you could get some good redemption with infant or child rates or something to that effect, that then made doing a points and cash joint booking not too bad of a rate.

I believe a while back for at least one chart, the 3rd and 4th passenger in concierge rooms was actually a decent exchange for points — but not at times that would have worked for us. Might have even been the end of the Starcruisers run.

I looked at the West coast Mexico sailings for fall 2026 and did some rough estimates— I think you could maaaybe get $12-14 per point in some verandah categories, though I didn’t check what they were currently charging for cash fares on those exact sailings.

Can you tell me how to find out if we can book one person on points and then pay cash for the other? We actually have leftover points we want to use for 2026 but I only want to use those points and not borrow from the next year. Do I need to call member services ( I hate doing that🥴) any chance I can text with them to see what it might cost for the 2nd person?
I’ve only “ rented” to family and friends so I’ve never gone through a rental place but how are you determining what the $ cost of the point conversion? Just taking the cruise you are wanting and determining the cost on the DCL website and dividing it by the cost point for a single person?

Thanks for any help!!

Yes you can book one on points and pay cash for another person. To determine the cost, you can look on the DCL website and see the cash prices. Room categories matter a lot as well as deck. You'll want to compare exact room numbers as rooms next to each other might have different prices per person.

For me on determining the price per point, I look at the cash prices and then the points chart for the same room. So, let's say the cash price is $1000./pp and the point cost is 150 points per person. That would be $2,000. for the cruise fare (there are taxes and port fees in addition). It would be 300 points. That's how you can figure out what the value per point is that you'll be getting.

It's not a good deal, but if you have more points than you will use, it's better than letting them expire. You'll also pay $95. for the exchange and you'll have to pay 100% of the cash portion immediately. If you book it through DCL and cash only, you can put a deposit down and have lots of time to pay for it. If you have to cancel, the points are permanently reservation points and cannot be used for DVC resorts.

To add, those with MMB don’t pay the $95 fee!

Than you so much!!!

Is it true that the points used for cruises are converted to "reservation points", and cannot go back to DVC points if you were to cancel?

Yes, that’s correct. Same as when using DVC points to book non-Disney hotels and certain other uses.
