I apologize if this ends up appearing twice. It didn't seem to work the first time. :guilty:

DH and I will be celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary during our trip to WDW in May. I read somewhere (Unofficial Guide, maybe?) that mentioning a 'special occasion celebration' is a VERY good idea.
I guess my questions are:

Mention it to whom?....the person you book with?
Mention it when?...when you book or when you arrive?
Is there 'really' any benefit?...we're booking the trip we have always wanted to do...what could they add to it as a 'congratulations'? :lovestruc

Let's say I wanted to do something special for my DH as a surprise on my own...any suggestions? He's pretty much in on the plans-or at least what plans I'm willing to tell him. He's NEVER been to WDW (can you BELIEVE that?!)....so what extra special thing would you do to surprise your DH/DW?

I appreciate your input!

I can't answer most of your Qs but special things I surprised my DH with were horse and carriage ride, Dive Quest (if you two scuba), romantic dinner at Morroco (excellent atmosphere). Someone else suggested the Segway tour but we didn't have time. He said he and his DW loved it.

Have fun!

Mention your special occasion to everyone along the way - reservationist, front desk person, host(ess), waitstaff... everyone.

Sometimes you get special attention, sometimes you don't.

Mention the occasion to the person you book with at your resort and any ADR's you may make. For the ADR's, they may ask you if you want a cake or something added to your meal for an extra fee (I think it's $12.00 or something). The cakes are VERY good. They give it to you usually with a card from the characters if it's a character meal. The resort MAY put balloons and a card in your room, but it's not guaranteed.

Mention it to everyone... when you make hotel and dining reservations, when you check in, when you eat....

I usually plan everything, but this last trip, my DH surprised me with a Mickey cake (delicious!), Asti Spumanti (you can order champagne) with/Mickey glasses and a beautiful floral arrangement during my birthday Wishes cruise. You can order all of this from the Disney Florist. Here are some pix:

We celebrated our 25th annivesary at WDW last May. We mentioned it to DVC Member Services when we booked our stay and to 'Ohana when we made the ADR for our dinner. Got a nice little "Happy Anniversary" certificate in our room, and the waiter made up a free dessert for us at 'Ohana. We try not to milk it - don't want to ruin a good thing - but it was nice.
