I`ve been on the phone with the special asistance department with VA requesting a bulk head seat for DH. they have put in the request but can`t guarentee it, so I`m looking for success stories, advice or otherwise with such requests.
As an aside I asked how much it would be for premium economy seats and after a 15 minute detour had a chap offering to cancel our seats and rebook us costing approx £1200 more, however on the manage your flights on the website we can upgrade for £442 for both of us - how can that be :confused3
Thankyou!

hiya

I know alot of the bulk heads are kept for people needing them for medical reasons or sky cots, we requested one a few years ago and got with the aid of a doctors letter (chris was wearing a brace on his leg).

who knows whats happening with the upgrade prices they seem to be all over the place

when we havent travelled PE, weve got special assistance seats for my ds every time, hes autistic. but there not assigned until 24 hrs before.

On the other note, i was speaking to a couple who asked for them because of hubby was rather large and mobility was poor, but they couldnt even sit in them in the end, as most of them they are solid seat units and the arms cannot be moved inbewteen them, which makes them quite tight on space, (my hubby didnt fit comfortably and hes not that huge!)
the kids find it easier to sit / sleep when we can move the arms and lay them across our laps and there seats.

We have had bulkheads in the past based upon Joshua being Autistic.
They always say there is no guarantee - seats are for babies and special needs children mainly.

Must admit we do now pay the extra and go Premium Economy.

The price is probably based that when he checked for a PE seat on his computer, the class of PE seat showing to him as a straight PE fare was that price, whilst the upgrade fare is a different class of ticket.

Why do you want a bulkhead seat? The only advantage is that there is no-one in front to recline at you, as others have said, there is less leg room (you cannot put your feet under the seat in front, the armrests do not move and you have to use the pull out trays, which can be very awkward to use if you are a little err "plump" shall we say?
Plus some of the bulkheads are the toilet bulkheads so you get people standing by your seat for long times and noise from the washrooms.

What are your flight dates and flight numbers?

Thanks all for the reassurance and explanation re pricing.
DH needs a seat with no reclining in front of him as he has a severe curvature of the spine - his head is at a right angle to his body and if someone reclines their seat he is virtually trapped! Airlines will not give us exit row seats - with good reason.
We`re travelling out on the 25th Nov VS075 Man, I can`t wait DH will be happy when we get there!

The flight is showing with plenty of seats, so they can do you the cheaper PE upgrade.
If they cannot give you a bulkhead, don't worry, the flight is very empty and you will be able to get a row each after take off to sit in!
