I thought I had read a thread about a special allergy cleaning for your hotel room. I can't find the thread again. My DS7 has a severe dust mite allergy. His ear tubes swell shut when he comes in contact -usually in a new environment. It is very similiar to someone who has a peanut allergy and their throat swells shut. Now that we know the root of his problem we have been lucky to control his environment to keep him well. He has to have a HEPA air purifier running in his room 24/7 plus daily vacuuming with a HEPA filter vaccuum. No curtain, bedskirts, stuffed animals ect. He has to take a daily antihistamine and other meds to keep swelling reduced. It's not mild by any standard. My question was:
1. what does the special room cleaning consist of?
2. who do I contact for this?
3. How far in advance do I need to call?

Our trip is a short 16 days away and need to find out info ASAP.
TIA

I would have the request for the VIP cleaning added to your reservation and explain what it is for. They will steam clean the carpet, change out the air conditioner filter, do a more extensive cleaning, and if needed use fragrance free sheets.

We have to have this done for my daughter's allergies and it is a great service although we did have 1 bad experience. We are heading back to the World soon and already have our request made.

There are different "types/levels" of VIP cleaning, but I am traveling and do not have them with me. My child has life-threatening PN and TN allergies, and environmental allergies including dust mite, but those are not as severe as your child's. With dust mites, I think you probaby don't want the carpet steam cleaned, because I think that multiplies them (?). Anyway, you can specify carpet cleaned OR not recently cleaned. They also do things like all new bed linens for PN allergies and other things for enviro stuff. Because yours are so severe, I would reco talking to a manager at the hotel you are staying at a day or two before, if you can. We have requested VIP cleans for our last 5 trips, and the visible dust levels in the rooms have varied. I am not always certain that they have cleaned as they were supposed to, but I usually clean a bit myself anyway, we travel with pillow encasements for my son, and since allergy shots, we have been lucky and he isn't as allergic to some things anymore. Good luck - I'm sure that they can accomidate you, but I would just make sure the reason for your request is very much understood so that you can have a worry-free trip!

Definitely call and ask to speak to special services.

I would bring your own bedsheets, or at least pillows and pillow cases. You can even bring a comforter, sheets, and pillow in their own suitcase. I would bring towels too. Ask Disney to remove all their cloth from the room.

Because you need all these things for medical reasons, your airline will allow you to check this bag for free - medical equipment (as long as that is all that is in the suitcase) is not charged for and does NOT count against your checked bags.

You can also bring a HEPA filter in that suitcase, depending on size if you think that would help.

I would also bring a bed sheet on the plane to cover the seat and into the parks to cover the seats in theatres. I can pretty much guarantee those seats NEVER get cleaned. You may even want to look into a stroller-as wheelchair for him, so that he comes into contact with "foreign" cloth as little as possible.

Hope this helps!

I was told by housekeeping that the air filter is changed by request only for the VIP cleaning so be sure to have them note that you need a new filter for the room.
