Special 9/1/08 Cruise Continued

I just discovered Zazzle.com....what a fun site! Got our FE gifts from OTC, and made custom stickers and a magnet for our door from Zazzle. I feel like I am spending as much as I will on vacation before the vacation! But, as usual, it is fun

Merrick is still not walking on his own...don't know if that is good or bad. I am not sure if I want a newly walking toddler at WDW or on a rocking ship, but I am anxious for him to walk without needing to hold our hand. I imagined him unsteadily walking up to characters on the ship, but alas, he just may be crawling instead!

You're right! The preparation for the trip IS half the fun!

Wouldn't that be something if Merrick's first step were on the MAGIC! There will be plenty of Pixie Dust sprinkled around!

DCL did very little for the 10th. Nothing special at all. They had a cake that said "Happy Anniversary". Alex and Carolyn had buttons made for everyone on the ship. We had a group go around and put them on everyones Fish.

Too bad Disney didn't play up the 10th anniversary. Sometimes (most) I really think they need to hire some of us to give them ideas for merchandise. Their sales would increase dramatically. It almost seems that lately they are just doing enough to get by, and the details fall through the cracks.

I agree DCL does seem to let a lot go through the cracks...we were on the Magic over St. Patrick's Day with Leslie & Joe in 2006 and DCL had nothing on the ship specifically for St. Patty's Day...no t-shirts....no pins...nothing.....I bought us all t-shirts at Cracker Barrel on the drive down and picked up St. Patrick's Day ears at WDW before we headed on the ship....we were the only 4 people "decked out" in St Patrick's Day attire!!!! Everyone asked up where we got our ears...DCL could have made a mint on merchandise!!!!

I just found this thread by chance today,I wondered what happened to everyone as the last cruise we went on was the member cruise last year,and we havent looked at the boards much.

We are not on this cruise and didnt even know about it,but plan to cruise in 2009,so if there are any special cruises in 2009 let us know,and if we can make them we will.

We are at WDW from 28th September 2008 for nearly 3 weeks if anyone is going then.

Ashley, we will miss youby about a week, bummer, as we are there about 10/25 ish maybe a pinch later.

dCL did not want to make a big thing outta the 10th AS they did to want to accknowledge that their ships are 10 years old, I guess it is not teh Kewl thing fro cruise lines to do, The ship was in good shapwe but one can find points of wear from the weather etc, .. but still a great trip.

We goot set with our transport from MCO tothe port this morningand should be there about 9:00 ish ,

Alx and Carolyn are doing basically the same thing as us, they have an earlier flight from LAX to MCO. we will be the people with alltehbling around our necks LOL!!!!!

He'll be 14 months at cruise time. I never hesitated to bring him....and we booked this cruise because of the "kid-friendly" intinerary. I had questions on what a 14-15 month old can do, as we have never paid attention to that stuff before, but I would never hesitate to bring a baby, regardless of walking or talking, on DCL. At this point, I completely get Merrick won't remember much, if any, of the cruise. But it adds to the memories for us!

Why does she want to wait until the walking and talking happens? The little ones are still mainly free until 2 years, so cost isn't too much of an issue! I be you could convince her!

There is no convincing her... at this point anyway. He's only 6 months old and she's a first time Mommy. She said "I don't want my son out in the middle of the ocean!" She probably has to sign something for me to take him and she won't. Believe me.. we'll keep working on her! The problem is.. I watch him 5 days a week, and if he can't go.. then WE can't go!! The other grandma is coming from NY to watch him while we are on this cruise.. we made those arrangements before he was born!!!

Wow. I would have though that DCL would have done up that cruise big time.
We almost booked it just for that reason.
However, I think we cruisers tend to make more of certain cruises than DCL does. More than likely, to them, it is just another cruise.

Hate to bring up the members cruise again, but some of our favorite souveniers are from the members cruise we took.

I have set a date of Aug 21 cut off for the FE list, that way it gives us plenty of time to finish up and mail packages if need be. Peter will contine to add names to the master list up to Aug 27, as for lanyards I'm not sure what date Ken as set up.

Hope there are no hard feelings if I set my date earlier than Aug 21. I think I will make a few extras over and above the total next week and cross this off the To Do List. I will be a basket case towards the end of this month and I want to have as much done before then as I possibly can.

You can take as many pictures of Merrick as you want having fun on the ship (just make sure to leave Tim and I out of any if we are looking frazzled! ) and bring them home to show your DD how great it can be! I am a first time mama too, but I think because my mom worked for UAL, traveling everywhere was just what I was used to.

This is actually Merrick's second Disney Cruise....I was 17 weeks along with the little man on our 2006-2007 NYE cruise! Don't know if I would do that again though, Konk Koolers with no rum and I couldn't take Bonine

KONK KOOLERS WITH NO RUM???? Hey we were on that cruise too!! Small World! I think it's different... Merrick will be with you... but would you let him go alone with your Mom?? I will have to remember to get a picture of him having fun though, just to rub it in... And I will need a baby fix... I'm gonna miss my little man!!! Remind me though.. because MY Konk Koolers always have EXTRA rum.
