Have you tried the Gentle Touch Teeth Whitening onboard, or known anyone who has? Could you tell a difference in the whitness of your teeth? If so, how much of a difference? Was it painful? How long did the whiteness last? Would you say it was worth the $199 fee? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! :)

I have not done this but I have heard LOTS of negative feedback about it. Everything from "no change" to "left white spots on my teeth". Honestly, I would do this through a qualified dentist rather than a spa, especially considering the cost and the reviews I have read.

Perhaps someone else can give a first-hand review.

One thing to bear in mind with whitening, is that some people can get sensitivity from it, which is a fairly normal side affect. However I don't think I would want that on my cruise! Obviously some people are going to get it worse than others, and others wont get it at all.

Interestingly enough my dentist charges about $450 for whitening (:scared1: ) not sure if the treatments are comparable though.

I do not believe that the onboard whitening is anything like what a dentist does. It is more of a cosmetic procedure.

I tried it and it didn't work. Told my dentist about it later and he about died laughing. He said he thought I was too smart to fall for that. Guess not.
He went on to explain that even with a dentist's treatments, some teeth just will not whiten....and that just one treatment won't work for anyone.

I know more about teeth than any non-dentist should ever know. (DDad, DSis, DCousin and DUncle are dentists and/or orthdontists.)

At best, the spa will take your money and do nothing you couldn't achieve yourself with whitening toothpaste.

At worst, they will strip a layer of enamel off of your teeth PERMANENTLY - this stuff does not grow back, folks - leading to sesitivity, increased risk of cavities, etc.

Would you let your hair stylist inject you with botox? :scared1: Would you let a guy in a strip mall do liposuction? :scared1: :scared1: If so, then you are exactly the type of thrill-seeking cosmetic adventurer the spa is looking for...

Wow - I really appreciate the feedback!

My dentist charges $900 to do a one-time in-office whitening, which we clearly cannot afford. So, you can see why DCL's price of $199 was pretty enticing!

Looks like I should skip DCL's treatment and book a massage instead! ;)

The Spa will sell you lots of 'treatments.' Teeth whitening is one; being smeared with seaweed goo and wrapped up is another.

You can get a wine package for the price of the whitening - and it's a far better use of your money.

I had not done but have heard that its not safe and have a harmful effect..

I had it done on a cruise about 4 years ago, it was rubbish and it did make my teeth feel strange for quite a while. x

Not that much of a change for me - and not worth the $$. Also - very hard sell on additional product... Won't be doing it again, won't recommend it either...

If you want your teeth whitened, your own dentist can do it for you. Why would you have it done in what is, in fact, a transient beauty spa by people who are not dentists, and may not be qualified to administer a dental treatment? If I were having it done, I would want to see evidence of graduation from a proper dental hygiene course, at the very least!

As an orthodontist, I'll tell you that this is likely a waste of money. Your dentist is going to use a stronger agent to bleach your teeth - and generally get results. Last time I checked (I don't offer bleaching in my office) you must have a dental license to buy and use the higher percentage "bleach".

What they are offering will likely yield only minor noticeable results if any. You'd probably get just a good a result using Crest white strips. Even if what they are using is of professional grade, as others have pointed out, sensitivity can be very real and sometimes very painful. Not what you'd want on vacation.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Obviously, the regulations that we dentists follow are overseen by a state board, which the ships wouldn't be under. So, who knows?

Point one--I would never let someone who is not a trained and experienced dentist work on my teeth.

Point two--the stuff they use for "teeth whitening" on the ship is for sale at Ulta. If I chose, I could do it myself (and I don't choose that option either!)

I've used the Crest whitestrips and they work great. I'd never pay hundreds of dollars to get my teeth whitened given the results I've had with the strips.

I had it done in January 2002 on my honeymoon, on a Celebrity cruise ship. I saw NO difference at all. Bummer.
As others have mentioned, Crest White Strips have worked better for me than the treatment on the cruise. I have seen changes with the strips.

I prefer going to dentist than spa. I heard negative feedback from many people.

Some leaves yellowish spot; some causes sensitivity and many other negative things. This is because some uses fake whitening products.

Why go on with that? Choose the best and the trustworthy one.

It is not something I would choose to do at at spa. But to each his own.
