OK, so I know I should know this already. During the ride, at the part where the computer guy is working on the computer in a garage, who is that supposed to be?

From what I have read, he is no one special but a nod to those people in the '80s that were trying to come up with a home computer. I don't know if that is actually true or not, but like I said before it is something I read once here on the DIS.

I would say it's Steve Wozniak. Some others would say Steve Jobs. Woz was the geek.

Some say Wozniak, because of the glasses.

I'm thinking Jobs, due to his being a major (if not THE major) stockholder at the time.

Maybe they meant for it to be ambiguous.

It's probably an imagineer, using a computer to figure out how to fix the Yeti without breaking the rest of Expedition Everest...

The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World book says:

"Who is that computer guy sitting in the garage, inventing the personal computer? Think he might be Microsoft's Bill Gates or Apple's Steve Jobs or Steve Wozniak? Nope. The official Imagineer stance is that he is a compilation of everyone whose efforts went into creating PCs.

Pam Fisher, Walt Disney Imagineer and senior show writer, says the garage scene is 'an homage to all the young dreamers working out of their garages and on their kitchen tables, perfecting all the technologies needed to create the personal computer. Hewlett-Packard started in a garage. Apple started in a garage. But there were also many other nameless people in Northern California working in their own garages at the time, figuring out the other parts of the puzzle. This scene is a salute to them all.'" :surfweb:

On a related note- I know there have been lots of posts asking for the best Disney fact/guide books- this is hands down my favorite. So much fun stuff in it that makes for even more magical moments noticing things around the parks. :wizard:

IDK but I saw Jerry Lewis standing in that sterile-looking computer room.

Jack Spence wrote something similar in his blog about Spaceship Earth.

I like to consider myself a Spaceship Earth expert. That is my favorite ride and I try to know everything possible about it. Like others have mentioned, there isn't an official name released on who that likeness is of, however, the only official response has been (like stated earlier) that the person is just someone that represents the time period and is not someone in particular. However, I personally think it looks awfully close to what Jobs and Woz looked like, although that was a popular look back then.
