Hello all,

I had heard that AT&T was leaving Spaceship Earth as its sponsor. Does anyone know if that's happened yet? And if so, who's the new sponsor?

Thanks,::MickeyMo

Not sure, but rumors were flying that SE was going to be changed into a thrill ride! Blasphemy!

SE will be taken over by the golf company Titliest (sp) and all the exhibits inside are due to be changed into a history of golf through the ages. The company thought it would cash in on the old saying that the EPCOT sphere looks like a giant golf ball . . . ;)

yes, of course I am joking. . .

I think the plans for a thrill ride were shuttered because it would have been too expensive to alter the ride mechanism inside SE. The plans for the thrill ride are still alive, I believe, just in a new location. So far, SE is safe!

I am disappointed. I think it is a great way for kids to learn about how communication has evolved.

What is wrong with also stimulating the mind?

EWWW, they better not do the golf history thing and as cool as a thrill ride might be, I love it the way it is... :(

I was one of the few "family" rides left!

I hope that they leave it alone!!!

I asked someone there about the thrill ride idea, and she said that SE was not built for a thrill ride, structurally. I am willing to believe it because I want to believe it!:)

We loved SpaceShip Earth.... it was a nice relaxing ride through time. Let's hope they leave well enough alone!

OK, Elemusing, I admit you had me going at first. I was just about to add the communications exhibit area to our "must do" list for our upcoming quick trip. My girls could spend hours there, but I'd planned on skipping it since we'll only have 3 days at WDW this time. :D

Thanks for the link, Dan!

As usual, we mere mortals still don't know what's going on. (And it's not clear that ANYONE really does at this point.) The bottom line is still that SSE lovers like myself should plan to visit this attraction frequently in the next couple years...

The notion that the structural integrity of SSE would be fatally compromised by the removal of the internal ride structures is just a little strange. The whole point of geodesic domes is their structural integrity using a minimum of building materials. Of course most geodesic domes are hemispheres, and it may be that SSE was not actually built as a geodesic structure, but just to look like one.

Our family enjoyed this every night we were in Epcot, as a we left the park (it's open until 9, even though most of the Future World is closed) so I'd hate to see it changed into a boring golf show or a thrill ride. It's a very nice family ride and there arent' many of those in Epcot. As of last week, ATT&T was still at the helm.

::MickeyMo "Well hi there everybody!"

Change? To the big golf ball?! NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My "answer" was inspired by an April Fool's joke posted on here last April, but I can't find the thread. If anyone can, it was quite funny. . .

That being said, I LOVE SE, and hope it never changes. I hated it when they turned off the lights at the beginning and installed those "Safety" signs telling you to stay seated, etc.

My DS5 loves it and it is always a nice, cool, relaxing break at EPCOT. And when I am tired, I can usually catch a little 5 minute cat nap in here. ;)
