I'm sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a thread through searching.

On the Spaceship Earth ride, is the teenager in the garage working on a computer supposed to be Bill Gates- or another famous computer geek like Steve Jobs? Or is it just a random teenager?

Thanks!

It is no one in particular according to the Hidden Secrets of Walt Disney World.

It's a throwback to all of those inventors in the garage tinkering away at new things.

HTH!

Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs I would assume as they are credited with developing the first home computer by working out of their garage for six months.

Just a guess though.

Here's what UG says on their blurb about Spaceship Earth: ...a 1970's era computer room and a home garage showing what looks suspiciously like the invention of the Apple personal computer (perhaps a homage to Steve Jobs, Disney's largest individual shareholder). :goodvibes

I believe Hewlett-Packard got its start out of a garage. They were really one of the pioneers of the Home PC business.

The official line is that it is not intended to be a specific person.

You can believe it, or draw your own conclusion.

That is what I have read. The man in the garage is a generic compilation of all of the computer age pioneers.

Every time my husband and I ride this and go past this guy we both start laughing. It is supposed to be just a generic computer guy, but he looks exactly like a friend of ours, someone my husband went to college with. He even had a shirt just like the shirt on the guy! It's funny because my husband's classmate went to work with a start-up computer company after he graduated and became one of the best computer programmers on the whole east coast. He even went and help program Space Mountain in Disneyland. I know it's not supposed to be him or anyone else, but it again shows Disney's attention to detail. We were there and believe me, this is exactly how those early computer guys looked. So funny!!!

Enjoy The Magic!!

Thanks for the replies!!

It was just one of those things I always wonder about when riding. I spend the whole time looking at all the props hoping to see a name on the mailbox or something in the garage to give me a clue. :rotfl:

Did your husband go to school with my husband? :lmao:

While Disney may not admit it (where is proof of their official line is that it is a generic computer guy?) that guy looks like Steve Wozniak AND that looks like an Apple I.

DH seems to remember seeing some tell tale sign ~ he THOUGHT it was the license plate on the car said WOZ or something but we looked it it doesn't look like that car has a license plate at all.

We thought it was Wozniak and joke (as Apple geeks) everytime that we should just throw money at him while we're riding.

We always thought it was Woz too! The resemblance is pretty clear to me.

Same area - does anyone know what the poster is above his computer? Some band, but I can never see clear enough to know!
