Going up this morning at 10:39 a.m. The daytime launches are not nearly as good as the night launches... But it is something to see. Security for this launch is really tight. Fighter jets flying all over the place......submarines off the coast as well as Coast Guard Cutters.... PORTABLE MISSILE LAUNCHERS at the CAPE!!! There have been threats made for the launch.....I think they are ready for anything....

Security is unbelievable. While they have been doing many of those measures that Tony mentioned post 9/11, there is even more of it for this launch. Personally I am very nervous. Tony, just curious, where did you hear about the threat, details such as that are not usually released to the public.

We had tickets to KSC to view a launch pre 9/11, but it was cancelled and we had to go home, so we never got to see it. It was a 2:00am launch too...makes me sad we missed it.

I would have liked to have seen this launch (even if just from the coast) but unfortunately Nasa's timing is off....they should have held off for 2 or 3 more days.;)

Our wonderful local news Jasmine...... They reported it a day or two ago..... I don't put much credibility in it..... But the security is very tight for this launch. They have a "special" passenger.... :)

Yes Tony I know about the "special" passenger and I am under some of the security measures right now myself. I guess I missed that news report. Thanks. :teeth:

it was more of a "generic" threat. Nothing specific....They are just covering all the bases I imagine. For anyone that has never been over to the Space Center......I don't see how anyone could get close enough to cause any harm over there. I just don't see it being possible....

That was the prettiest day launch I have had the pleasure of seeing. We are all breathing easier here. :teeth: One shuttle launch down, two rocket launches to go the next couple of weeks. ;) Busy time here on the space coast.

For a daytime launch it was really bright! I'd LOVE to go up on one... :) I guess the closest I'll get is Mission:Space at EPCOT this spring........ :)

Was on cell phone with friend in TITUSVILLE as it was going up...sky so clear I saw it all the way in MIAMI.. it is always a great site--at night it is the best --we can see it for a long time on a clear night.. saw it for a while this morning--boy that thing can move!!!! Would love to be up in Titusville when it goes up though!!! Gotta love the NASA station,,,,its like your right there with them!!!

I think a lot of the 'extra' security was due to the astranaut from Israel being aboard.
