Space Shuttle Launches Viewing Tips? Etc?

All launches day and especially night are easily visible from hundreds of miles away as long as there is no cloud cover between you and it.

Saw a launch last year from downtown Celebration. A pretty big crowd formed around the lake to see it, and someone blasted the radio broadcast from their parked car, sorta neat.

I know everyone is talking about launches .... but I will be in DW 10/19-10/26, so I will probaby not see a launch. The 10/10 shuttle is expected to be landing on 10/20 .... is a landing worth setting aside time for? I know that I am already taking a chance on it that it will actually land at KSC.

Any info/opinions would be appreciated!!!

No, it is like watching a plane land from eight miles away and when it nears the runway it disappears behind the trees. Depending on the entry track, you would easily hear the sonic booms, however.

Dec 2006, we saw a night launch from WDW. We had just gone through security at Magic Kingdom and everyone was talking about the launch. We took a seat on a bench (as far away from the entrance as we could) and within minutes, the sky lit up bright orange -- nearly daytime bright. We were able to track it for several minutes.

Truly a once in a lifetime experience!

Hmm... At 12:30ish am on 10/10 we'll be on the Disney Wonder, en route to Nassau... think we'll be able to see the launch?

Ahhhh, darn. There goes our chances for seeing a launch. We leave to go back home the afternoon of Nov. 16th. I'm glad I didn't tell anyone that we might see the launch on Nov. 10th, like it was originally scheduled. :sad1:

YES!!!

We are at WDW on October 14 and will probably rent a car to drive to SVP at Titusville for this. 10:19 pm is so much more appealing than 12:30 in the morning, too. Thanks for the updates, BPCooper!

OMG! We'll be @ WDW on Oct 14. We saw a shuttle launch from MK in 2005 in the daytime and it was incredibly cool. And this one is at night! I'm so excited. I hope it really happens. We're staying at BWV, I need to find a good viewing spot.

Doesn't it make you want to cry. We are going to be at the Nascar race. With the lights on at the track, we probably won't see it.

Bought launch tickets for the 10th and cant make for the 14th of Oct. So we are out the money oh well lesson learned.
