We haven't been to WDW since they moved the RD welcome show to the castle so I'm a little lost as to how to proceed. We'll be there October 14-21 and I'm finalizing our schedule in advance of booking FP+ on Tuesday.

If we want to RD Space Mtn, with no interest in actually seeing the welcome show, what time should we arrive at MK? I know they open the tapstiles 60-75 minutes before scheduled open (9 am in our case), but I'm not sure we need to be there THAT early just to position ourselves to enter Tomorrowland. If we need to be, that's fine. We couldn't sleep late at Disney if we tried!

If I don't get SDMT FP+, we'll be headed that way with the rest of the throngs of people so in that case I know we need to be there super super early. Space I'm not so sure of.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Haven't done the new rope-drop either, but before that...even when we arrived a couple of minute after rope-drop we didn't have problems getting to Space Mountain and we were able to ride it a couple times in a row with minimal wait. :)

I don't know that it will make a big difference for you since the throngs take off and jockey for position all the way to SM. We were at the front and had a lot of people pass us by on the way. My kids couldn't keep up with that unless they ran. Had a 10 minute walk through the queue after briefly standing in line outside the doors. For our June trip, the area really started to fill up at about 8:30.

Space is easy at RD. The Tomorrowland rope is nothing like the Fantasyland rope.

This was our experience doing Space at RD yesterday (8am MK open)... it was our first time going through the new security checkpoint along the walkway from BLT to MK so I was curious and made notes... :)

8/11
  • Security line on walkway from BLT 7:42
  • Done security 7:47
  • Passholder park entry line 7:52
  • Enter park 7:53
  • Tomorrowland entrance 7:57 (already a large crowd there)
  • Enter Space mountain line 8:04 (outside)
  • Done space 8:34 (30min from start of wait to ride completion)
I am certain that if we got to the park 30min earlier the wait for Space would have been shorter, but TOTAL WAIT would have actually been a bit longer, or maybe the same (maybe 10min Space wait, but 30min waiting at the Tomorrowland rope = 40min)
