Someone just told me that if you get on the left side line at Space Moutain the ride is calmer than the right side. I looked at him like he had two heads, and then thought, "gee I better check this out."

Any thoughts?

I don't know if one side is "tamer" or not, but they are definately different. This trip we tried both sides twice each before deciding that we all preferred the right side. The remainder of the trip we always tried to go right.

Tiger Fan, not to be contradicting, but both sides of Space Mountain are actually mirror images of one another. They follow the same path, but make turns in the opposite direction. One of the two sides (I never remember which) is slightly longer than the other, because the positioning of the exit. The final segment after the slowdown is a bit longer.

Long has waged the debate about which side is faster. Most in the know say that neither is faster, in general. However, during the summer, later in the day when the track is "hot", a heavily loaded train can reach speeds of about 32 mph. An empty train in the morning will top out at about 28 mph.

One side was smoother (not as jerky). seems like it was the left side.

Thanks! When we go I'll have to check this out and report back.

I read somewhere that the left line is always shorter than the other. This is due to the fact that psychologically when in line people gravitate towards the right hand side rather than the left.

Writing this I have just realised that I always go to the right. Will have to try the left hand side in October.

This is sort of funny! Dh and I ALWAYS try to go onto the left side because we think it's a tad longer with more drops. On our last trip, we got there for EE and went to the right side the first time and then walked right back in and went to the left side (that side wasn't open the first time round) and both agreed the left is better. My advice is to try both sides and see which you prefer.

Maybe I'm crazy but I think the right hand side is tamer than the left hand side. We just got back and I defintely think that there were more drops on the left hand side.
