Space Mountain is Closed

Can anyone tell me the status of it now??????? DD has her heart set on it for the first time and we leave on Tues.

This reminds me of my Disneyland trip back in '98. SM was the first ever rollercoaster I ever rode - and on my first time around, it broke down while we were at the top! They switched the lights on, and they pushed our car by hand to get it moving (in what seemed like slow motion compared to the next time around) but I can tell you, I'll never forget sitting there in my car on my first ever coaster ride, peering over the side at the fairly substantial drop below, thinking, I Knew there was a reason I never rode a coaster before :rotfl: They did send us around a second time without making us re-queue and I found it far less scary in the dark :flower: Cross fingers the WDW SM behaves for me :rotfl2:

We were there the end of Sept and it was shut down several times. We rode the TTA also and it was all lit up when we went through SM. Very ugly in the lights!!

I rode SM in DLP a few years ago. I remember it going upside down. Can anyone confirm this?

Did they change the harness in DW's space mountain? Someone told me the little bar that came down was replaced with shoulder harnesses. Is that correct?

That thing must go down daily or at least weekly...

It was down for several hours back in June of this year when we went. We also rode the TTA and saw the coaster with the lights on.

The thing I like about the coaster is the memories (like everyone else) and the fact that I can bring my 5 year old on a roller coaster besides the Goofy Barnstormer. He's still a little too short for RNR Coaster....so, he thinks that Space Mountain and Tower of Terror are the coolest things in the world.

Can't wait to bring him on Mission Space this year...

Speed :moped:
You are right about June.. I forgot that one. We were there for 2 weeks & nearly everytime we went to go on it, it was down. (along with several other rides going down during that trip)

No, it is still the small padded lap bar

I would not want to see any of the dark rides in the lights. HM, MS, RnR, Pooh, PPF, IASW...any of it. It would totally kill the magic!!!

Yes!, or Oui! :earsboy: It has a corkscrew inversion and a loop...
DLP is the newest SM (I think), and its a Linear Motor Launch coaster (Like Rockin Roller Coaster in the Studios).
I got a long sleeved polo when we were there.. says From the Earth to the Moon in French... you should HEAR the comments from WDW cast members
when they see that shirt... lots of envious CM's there... :earsboy:

Someone might have already said this or asked it, but does anyone know when SM is gonna open again?

Have not heard and we didn't go there today. It was Epcot and Pool day :cool1:

The SM at DLP is nothing lke the one at WDW. The one at DLP is amazing, more like the RnRC. It is a launch coaster and really moves. I personally find the one at WDW boring in comparison and was very dissapointed the first time I rode it as I presumed it would be similar to the one at DLP which I love. I guess it is a lot older ride though. My wish is that they would update it to be like the one at DLP. I guess that will never happen though.

I agree, the Paris version is such a great ride. I nearly didn't go on it this past April because I'm not keen on the WDW version but I was sooo glad I did it's a completely different experience :cheer2:

It has been redone since the 70's, so it is not quite as old as it could othewise be ::MinnieMo

The SM that I remember from my first ride had a huge drop .. now it has no drop but keeps spiraling around to get from top to bottom. I know for sure the cars have been redesigned too .. somewhere I have pictures of my poor grandparents in a old car in the 70's. They didn't heed the warnings before riding!

Ugh. I don't know why, but I watched the video of SM with the lights on and it creeped me out. I hope I can forget it.

I don't think this is entirely correct. The rocket trains have been changed since the opening but I am almost 100% sure that the tracks are the same ones from opening day. Maybe it just felt like the drops were bigger cause you were smaller...? That's how it was to me when I rode it at 6 and then did it again at 11. I was too scared for those 4 years between to do it again. Lol.

It was open 10/20 for MNSSHP.

It was closed at noon on 10/20 when we rolled thru it on the TTA and the lights were on and there were giant cranes and people working everywhere. It was a mess!

I'm suprised they got it open that evening~
