Is the Space Mountain ride the same at both parks?? It seemed not as dark and more jerky at DW. I remember it being more smooth and dark at DL. Are there any differences?

at DW you ride single file and it is so awesome. I had front seat 2 x's.... At DL you are paired up.. They are both great, but I like the single file ride better as you feel like you are going faster!

But then again I did turn green the first time I rode it at DL. But I was only 9. :)

Actually, the DL Space Mountain has been completely gutted and is being rebuilt for the 50th anniversary of DL. Looks like it should be really awesome when it gets done!

I will ride DL's Space Mountain, but I can't ride WDW's Space Mountain. DL seemed more smooth whereas I always got a headache on WDW's. DL's also had great speakers by your head with cool music for the ride.

Of course, now we have to wait to see what they do with the refurbishment at DL!!!

DL's used to be the smoothest, and probably will be again. I rode it the day before they closed it this past April and at that time it was the roughest ride I had ever been on at Disney. It seemed a lot jerkier than I remembered it and by the time the ride was over I felt as if I had been beaten with a baseball bat. I was glad that was our final day at the parks because I felt terrible the next morning. When we got home that night, it was all over the internet that SM had closed suddenly. It was kind of scary speculating what might have been going on while we were riding it, and how close we might have come to what eventually happened at BTMRR.

Hmmmm, Space Mountain at DL is closed until 2005. I wonder if they are re-making it like they have it at DL-Paris. There it is inspired by Jules Verne's novel, "From the Earth to the Moon". The ride itself is much more like Rock N' Roller Coaster.

The shape of the building is the same as the American parks, but it looks more retro-futuristic, and there is this great 'cannon' that goes up one side of it. When you get in the ride you roll around into the cannon up the side of the buildling, and this dramatic music composed by John Williams for the ride blares through speakers in you head rest until the climax, and then you get sling-shot up to the top and dive down through the middle in the top of the buildling. Then it's all in the dark, like Rock N' Roller Coaster, with a loop-the-loop, corkscrews, etc.

You can hear two clips of the music at the Disneyland Paris site: http://www.disneylandparis.com/uk/disneyland_park/discoveryland/attractions.htm

I rode it six times the day I was there, until I had to stop because I was getting vertigo... :teeth:

Though I love the originals, DL-Paris' Space Mountain gets MY vote.

Wow, Dan, thanks for sharing. I think the fact that it is not as tall and only has a 15 foot drop instead of a 35 probably explains it!
