Space Mountain: Clothing Optional - All done and true even if it is April Fool's

Camille - yes it was Jan Brady. :goodvibes

So Dad update:

The renal stats are because of his bone infection - once the amputation is done, we are hoping things will be in the mend. I am just anxious for it to be over and here that good news is on the way.

My Dad had an ulcer at the bottom of his left foot big toe that started in 2002. They could not get it under control and thought they would do a bi-pass on his leg to improve the circulation to save his toe.

The bi-pass was a total disaster and his leg never healed. Spasms, wound opening etc. I never got why they would cut him from groin to heel to save a toe but they did and it never was the same. The friggin toe never even healed.

FF to 2003 and he has lost all his money to a woman I calle Big T!ts. He had married her against everyones judgement in 1999 and sure enough - he had gotten sicker, had heart surgeries to top off everything else and she gambled hih house, business and saving away. Over $1,800,000 total - gone. By the time he found out - she left a Dear John letter at the hospital and moved to Oklahoma.

He now is renting a small apartment near my home and on Halloween 2004 decided to try and put a tree stand up. Not a go9od idea and he fell - 15 feet and shattered his heel. Hundreds of pieces. Left foot again.

That led to multiple surgeries - new wounds opening to fix old ones and just a roulette table of things and the foot - has had a wound the size of a 50 cent piece - open in it ever since. Sometimes shallower, sometimes a bit smaller but they kept hoping they could save the leg/foot if he stayed off it. If he did this or that. Amputation was always the last resort for my Dad. His grandmother died form gangreen due to an infection from Diabetes after there was no more leg to amputate.

So today, they found a massive bone infection and will schedule amputation for next week. It sounds like they will take it below the knee - half way down. They won't know till they open it up.

I have set boundaries with my dad - he got back from the Phillipines in September after being there a year and marrying a woman and I did not let him move in here with no plans of moving out. I know my Dad and although I love him, he is not someone who will change his status quo if he gets comfy.

He is one of those people who never takes any responsibility for some of his lifes choices. Like Big T!ts. It's always "she did this and she did that." While it may be true she was a nasty and vile human being, he went in with his weiner thinking for him. Never stopped to think why would his parents and children and everyone he knew hate her. Why would his entire business clientele start going down the cr@pper when she became office manager? Why not one person could find a single redeeming quality about her. That is a complete fact.

So now I sit here and know I will help my sister move him. He literally just moved out of her place last weekend into a home he was sharing. He cannot do for himself and she cannot be placed in the position to do it for him. I am fighting the guilt of wondering if the move he just did and packing most of his stuff on his own - led to this.

The truth though is this is along time comming and God willing, this might be the start of a new life for him. Maybe it will ease the constant pain he has been under and let him have the mobility he has lacked. Maybe he will be able to go hunting again. There are many people who have amputations who lead a life after better than their current situation.

I also know that losing a limb is one of the hardest things people go through. That their can be phantom pains and truthfully, I cannot imagine looking at my leg today and having a piece of you that you know as well as anything...something you have been born with and lived with for 61 years...just gone.

I can tell you it is another shot in the arm for getting my life in order so I do not have diabetes if I can help it.

Anyway - I will keep you all updated.

His wife is still in the Phillipines and I know this is hard on her as well as him. They met via computer in 2005, he went there for 2 months in 2006 and stayed in communication and contact until he went there in 2008 and they married. There is paperwork issues getting her here but my sister is hoping with the new issues of his health - it can expedite the process.

Strange possibly meeting someone who is married to my father that I have never met.

This whole life seems strange lately. I need to go to WDW for a dose of reality! :lmao:

Kay - I feel better now. Thanks!

I am running out the door and do not know when I will be back on or how much through the weekend.

My sister just called and my Dad is being admitted to the same hospital Baylor was at - a very good one. One of the best.

He is in renal failure and he is needing to have his leg amputated due to a longstanding issue.

Dan and I are on the way now. Please pray.

:grouphug: You have my prayers going up for your dad and your family.

Sending prayers your dad's way! and ditto that things calm down on y'all's end!

Thank you for keeping us posted!

Hello Dawn!
Wow..I missed a few days and again this trip report has turned from hysterical laughter to some deep conversations.

Hugs for your family. :grouphug: You've been through a lot the past week.

I think part of the reason I read your stories is because you are always right on target and you think just like I do. I've been "moving on" for several years now with my family. It's so funny that we all have those family members that feel sorry for themselves.

My dad passed away 12 years ago and I still miss him terribly. My mom on the other hand lives next door to me and she barely sees her grandchildren. My husband and I help her with the house. She is in poor health so I also grocery shop for her. My older brother lives with her but does nothing for her. We mow the lawn, shovel, you get the idea. He works part time doing odd jobs under the table. God forbid he pays income tax or for medical insurance. A real loser that takes advantage of my mom. He can't shop for her because every time she gives him money to go to the store, he takes off for days and blows the cash on drugs, crack ho's (we don't really know what exactly). ~ oh but he is such a good boy (57 years old btw). She doesn't know what she would do without him ~

I do what a good daughter would do. I make sure she is safe, has her meds, has food in the house. She is really not that bad off. She still drives everywhere and can go to the casino an hour away for a day trip. Walk around there all day but she can't go to the supermarket or Walmart for a few things.

She's my mom but she would never even walk across the lawn to visit us. She's never had my children sleep over. My oldest is 24 years old. I could go on and on. And I'm sure you could too about your family. I am interested in hearing about all your family's baggage cause I can definitely relate. I know that I'm not alone.

And when you said that you thought your mom would want to see Treynor but you remembered that she didn't care to see him when he lived nearby. Just know, that you are not alone either.

Her problem, not yours and not your children's problem either. So true.

Now back to the funny! ahem...Of course, when you have time.

I'm off to check out the weight loss thread. :yay:

Holy Cow she looks so danged old!!!!!!!!!!

Eve Plumb looks horrid!
:lmao: This is exactly why I adore you guys. We can all still laugh even in just the cr@ppiest of situations.

She looks hideous but once I knew who it was - and BTW good sleuthing...it was from TMZ - I totally recognized the eyes. She is 50 years old.

That means Shocker looks like he is 22!

BTW#2 - My Mom is going to be 63 this year. She is 13 years older than Eve Plumb...not Vanessa Redgrave. Even if my Mom can be a total numb to feelings drone...I would never let anyone think she was in her 80's. I do have limits! :rotfl2:

I am not sure if I should write for travel and stories or Ann Landers! Maybe a combo.

Thank You for saying you understand. It's all real. I do not think I could make up my life if I tried.

Hey Dawn -

Sending good wishes for your Dad. I hope his surgery and recovery go smoothly.

Eve Plumb? OMG! I knew she looked vaguely familiar. Remember how cute she was..."Marsha, Marsha, Marsha". Hard to believe how bad she looks in that picture. :sad2:

 You sure are dealing with everything at once. Good luck to your father with his surgery.

We are here for you, and I know exactly how much you are worried but we will pray yours has a better outcome. Sorry I haven't been on, no power and 30 inches of snow kinda put a damper on my dissing, couldn't believe how much I missed it. keep up the good thoughts and you are in our prayers. Much love:hug::hug::hug:

Hang in there Dawn. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. It seems to be just one thing after another for you these days. Sunny skies and good times are coming - they HAVE to be.

Give me a call if there is anything I can do for you from down here.

Had to share the picture that Lily made to put into Treyner's care package:

IMG.jpg

It's Treyner playing soccer with Lily watching him (in her heart dress, of course). That's an airplane on it's way to Disney in the sky. ;)

Oh that is just adorable! It's like one of those 'perfect' kid drawings you see in movies, if you get what I mean. :cutie:

I love the colors she used in the sky. VERY pretty indeed. :lovestruc

I hopped over from Wigd's TR to check out yours. I have gotten as far as your arrival in Des Moines and am debating whether to continue after the brow beating you just gave our fair state (and FYI, where I live we detest Missouri much more than Minnesota!) Interesting that you choose to degrade us while travelling in your ghetto van!

ETA: I'm on the next update and wanted to add that a Maid-Rite is NOT a sloppy joe! No sauce, just a loose meat sandwich. Much to the shock of most of our town, I've never actually had one at the Maid-rite in our town which is one of the first ever and has a bit of a cult following. People who have lived here but moved away order them frozen and sent by mail by the dozen! Also, Wasserbahn is a great hotel/waterpark! You should have had breakfast at the german restaurant next door...excellent food!

Chapter 5 - The End!

When we left AK we were a few hours early for our 8:30 p.m. Ohana’s resie.

I knew if we went back to the resort, we would never leave because we had hit that first day wall after 30 plus hours of driving. So we headed to the Poly and decided it would not hurt to ask! :worship:

We got up to the front stand and explained we were here to beg for mercy! The lady looked at us and said, “No Problem!” :scared1:

I could not believe it! The place was not packed and overflowing like I would have expected so we sat in a side lobby and waited about 20 minutes to go in. We were seated at the back of the restaurant and had a nice waiter who started bringing out the buffet of food. I had a dead camera at this point so all pics here are stolen. Call the fuzz - I do not care!

The best part is the waiter, assuming this family were huge eaters…because let’s face facts, Dan and I are not small and with Treyner (6‘2/195 pound 19 year old ), Carsyn and Baylor being teens…I think he thought we could put away some food! So the portions he brought to our table were massive! Way too much!
%27Ohana%2014.jpg

The salad which is served with a light glaze versus a heavy dressing! Love a great salad and I think thi sis one of the best! You eat it and enjoy and still want something else versus it being so filling you want to end your feast right there!

We had the noodles:
cwpicsfeb09-034-300x225.jpg

They are okay but not a must have for me. I wish I would have had the potatoes back in the day. They just taste a bit too starchy for me and not any great flavor. Like you keep eating a few bites thinking that there has to be something more you are missing. It tastes like kids food…bland.

CIMG2543.jpg

Here we have the pot stickers! I tried this for the first time last year with Dan and I had no idea what a pot sticker was! I think they are yummy and a new fave! Plus I love the Peanut sauce for dipping! Never tried the other two! Sorry!
1522680896034914164FugvDI

We had some beautifully prepared coriander wings! Sweet without being sickly and just melt in your mama’s mouth good! I am not a fan of eating off of bones so when I was able to pull the meat off very easy, it made my day! These wings could convince me I am more of a carnivore than the plant and carb junkie. I usually am!
IMG_2321.jpg

I am also equally grateful that they bring out hot & damp (I know I am so getting flamed for that statement :rolleyes1) napkins to wipe your fingers off! Nice touch!
%27Ohana%2017.jpg

Then they bring out the meat and act like they cannot believe you are so full you do not know if you can eat another bite! Our Cousin was very nice, he would have let us take 2 hours to enjoy our meal and pace ourselves but seriously, we were all exhausted. I was afraid Baylor was going to fall asleep. We each tried a bit of the meat minus the shrimp and Dan cannot eat beef. Turkey was great and I liked my beef that was well done. Not a fan of the pork for some reason!

ohana-dinner.jpg

The ever popular Luau Lady was there also. Can I say this without being flogged? She drives me nuts! Her voice is like a Marlboro lady :smokin:::yes:: who gets a side job entertaining kids after she smokes 3 packs out back by her plastic flamingo’s over looking the local watering hole. I think the idea is awesome for kids…but could they not find some hot, younger tiki dancing woman to teach the luau instead of Grandma Gertie who has to hike her 42 Longs up where they are supposed to be under her not so attractive MuMu? I mean seriously! If she greeted you off the plane in Hahhhvaiieeee…how much would the tourism drop?

The best for me is the last though!

Ohana+Dessert.jpg

It is still the best dessert on property IMO. The boys thought it was just okay…Carsyn and I were in heaven! In fact the boys liked the ice cream better than the bread pudding!

We were not next to the window overlooking the MK but down the restaurant from it and it was nice to glance over and see the castle and fireworks going on.

We finished our food, paid our bill with Dan’s CM discount and were on our way back.

Again, we lost the kids at the TV lobby at the Poly with the old Cartoons. I remember saying this in my last TR but it is soooo true. Watching them is one of the best pastimes my kids have. One of their favorite things to do in all of WDW.

This was taken on my camera phone and the only real pic of the night from us!

1219092115.jpg

We got back to CBR with no problems and the kids decided they wanted to head out to the pool and hot tub. It was nice to have them get some alone time and I was glad they wanted to enjoy the amenities whether the weather was 90 degrees or not.

I hit the pillows and was out. Literally before Dan finished brushing his teeth! :bitelip:

I know Carsyn called - lost at about 10 p.m. We gave her directions from where she was at. She took a wrong turn off the bridge connecting to our side of the resort from the pool. She got in the room, showered and I tried to sleep through it. She was not loud but the bathroom was right near our bed so there was no escape. The boys came in around 2 a.m. - Treyner found some girls at the hot tub to talk to that went to a college near Anderson. Baylor stayed because what else would he do when there were girls in bikini’s talking to him! :confused3 :lmao:

I remember being very aware when they came in that they too were trying to be quiet…but in one room - it is impossible to achieve that. This is when I knew that 2 rooms from here on out would be ideal. To give them more autonomy and ability to lead the life of teens (late night owls) and me at the ripe old age of 38...to sleep!

About 10 minutes into attempting to fall back to sleep for the 3rd time - I heard a whack with a pillow and then the boys giggling to no end. Then I realized what noise was missing.

:confused3

Carsyn snoring!

Now 2 things you need to know.

1st - Carsyn will sleep through 3 alarm clocks, phones ringing and a fire alarm - no joke and not even an ounce of exaggeration. She will need a husband who can hear a child because her baby is stewed if it has to count on her in the middle of the night.

#2 - She had a cold and was so plugged up and she snores quietly on most nights…but that night…was BAAAD!

Instead of being nice brothers and gently nudging her into a position she could sleep better - the two numb nuts decided to beat her with a pillow to see if she would stop the noise.

I laid there, waiting for the beats within to awake and pummel the both of them or a huge pillow fight to ensue.

Guess what happened?

Nothing!

The sleeping bear did not awake…and she did cease snoring…so I took the approach if it is not broke…don’t fix it! Treyner and now Baylor sleep next to her in our house - maybe they have a technique I did not know about! I will have to try it on Dan!:rotfl:

:rotfl2: Why oh why did you camera have to be dead!?! :lmao:

So true here, too! After our last trip, we ended up buying some DVDs of the old cartoons because the kids loved them so much!

Hey Dawn -

Sending good wishes for your Dad. I hope his surgery and recovery go smoothly.
He is putting his 13 year old black lab down this week first - she has some serious medical issues (cancer etc.) and then will be heading in. It is going to be rough but if he can get his head in a good attitude mode - things will be a bunch better. One of the social workers I am very close to on the burn unit will be seeing him as a favor so hopefully she can help with mind over matter!
Eve Plumb? OMG! I knew she looked vaguely familiar. Remember how cute she was..."Marsha, Marsha, Marsha". Hard to believe how bad she looks in that picture. :sad2:
I can't believe she was only 50! Plus...now I am remembering that I had a dream she was in last night. She was getting a child into a car seat and I kept thinking - how can she have a young kid when she is sooo old! Maybe it's because Dan and I have been talking about kids lately...I am not wanting a turkey neck and a toddler! :lmao:
 You sure are dealing with everything at once. Good luck to your father with his surgery.
Thanks and this means we can only have great new for awhile right! :worship:
We are here for you, and I know exactly how much you are worried but we will pray yours has a better outcome. Sorry I haven't been on, no power and 30 inches of snow kinda put a damper on my dissing, couldn't believe how much I missed it. keep up the good thoughts and you are in our prayers. Much love:hug::hug::hug:
I kind of wishe we would have had a big snowstorm! I don;'t remember wehen we have gotten more 12 inches at once and during my childhood - we had tons of snow! This winter Iowas and Nebraska got hit hard!

The ice damage in SW Iowa is crazy. More trees down and mess than anyone can imagine! They said that each little twig even was covered in 2-3 inches of ice! So sad and what a cleanup!

Thanks for the well wishes and I hope you are easing through your loss as well.

Hang in there Dawn. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. It seems to be just one thing after another for you these days. Sunny skies and good times are coming - they HAVE to be.

I will and thanks for everything! :lovestruc

He is going to love it! She is going to be the biggest heartbreaker in a few years! I bet her big brother will be just like Treyner...and she will want to ring his neck even more!:rotfl2:
I hopped over from Wigd's TR to check out yours. I have gotten as far as your arrival in Des Moines and am debating whether to continue after the brow beating you just gave our fair state Oh...come on! I love Iowa. :) (and FYI, where I live we detest Missouri much more than Minnesota! That is totally true in some parts of the state. In others I think they hate Nebraska as much as Minnesota! I love all the jokes though..there are some awesome slams from my fellow Wisconsin friends about MN) Interesting that you choose to degrade us while travelling in your ghetto van!
Believe me I know people were pointing and laughing at us! I would have been!:rotfl::thumbsup2
ETA: I'm on the next update and wanted to add that a Maid-Rite is NOT a sloppy joe! No sauce, just a loose meat sandwich. You need to send me a recipie then because my ex MIL made the only ones I have ever eaten and hers were not good. Not a suprise though because she can make a mean dessert and her ginger snaps are to die for but main courses were never the best! Much to the shock of most of our town, I've never actually had one at the Maid-rite in our town which is one of the first ever and has a bit of a cult following. People who have lived here but moved away order them frozen and sent by mail by the dozen! I am going to have to stop and try one now...compare them to the ones WIGD says are in KS! Also, Wasserbahn is a great hotel/waterpark! You should have had breakfast at the german restaurant next door...excellent food!
I would have loved to but nothing was open at all...I have been to that German Restaurant in like 1997 I think...viisting the colonies for a long weekend.

:rotfl2: Why oh why did you camera have to be dead!?! :lmao:

Go back - I fixed the pics...the one I posted of her...is really her!

So true here, too! After our last trip, we ended up buying some DVDs of the old cartoons because the kids loved them so much!

Denise

I have a bunch too I need to dig out! :)

I'll play .... is that your mom?!?!
That was going to be my guess too :rotfl2:

My sister just called and my Dad is being admitted to the same hospital Baylor was at - a very good one. One of the best.
I hope it all goes well, as if you need more to worry about

The ever popular Luau Lady was there also. Can I say this without being flogged? She drives me nuts! Her voice is like a Marlboro lady :smokin:::yes:: who gets a side job entertaining kids after she smokes 3 packs out back by her plastic flamingo’s over looking the local watering hole. I mean seriously! If she greeted you off the plane in Hahhhvaiieeee…how much would the tourism drop?
So so true :rotfl2: Plus think how many more Dad's would join in if she were younger :rotfl:

The boys came in around 2 a.m. - Treyner found some girls at the hot tub to talk to that went to a college near Anderson. Baylor stayed because what else would he do when there were girls in bikini’s talking to him! :confused3 :lmao:
Wow it didn't take him long did it? :rotfl2:

Instead of being nice brothers and gently nudging her into a position she could sleep better - the two numb nuts decided to beat her with a pillow to see if she would stop the noise.
Poor girl, at least they didn't wake her. BTW how did you arrange the beds?

Looks like my kind of food!! Wings and potstickers could be the meal for me, but salad looked yummy! I love it when they don't drown it in dressing!
:lmao:The Marlboro luau granny!!! Too funny!

I'm glad the kids got to do "their thing" for a bit and you got to get to bed!! I'm sure it was much needed rest! LONG day!

LOL at the boys and Carsyn's snoring!

I know those aren't your pics from Ohana, but WOW! With all the reviews that haven't been that great lately I was second guessing that ressie. Your review was excellent and I am more excited to eat there than before!
