Is there ANY chance Space Mountain might open early? We leave really soon, and I was really really hoping it would open a few days early.

I am keeping my fingers crossed!!!!!! We arrive June 27th-July 3rd and are hoping for some soft openings!!!!!!!!! :wave2:

While I keep hearing rumors for soft openings the first two weeks of July, any CM will tell you that there won't be any.

I was talking to a CM on May 5th and according to him Space Mountain is "secretly" open a few times a week. He said that it was indeed ready to go and they are now doing test runs and surveying people about the ride. But it is only open for very short periods of time and it's never advertised. So check it out -- you might get lucky! He said that he had been on it and it was amazing. When I asked him if it was an entirely new track he said "Let's just say they couldn't build up, so they built DOWN -- way down!" So it sounds like it will be underground now as well as inside the original dome! I don't know how reliable that info about it being open once in a while is, but that's what I was told. I can't wait to finally ride it! :)

I've heard the same thing about them holding test runs with guests. And I've heard a few other interesting rumors about what they did with the track--saying that it's not the same track layout that was there before. All I know is that on or before July 15, I'll know what they did.

I'm told that at the Press Event, it was said that the track layout is the same.

Though there is a separate "nightime" experience, which will supposedly use different music and effects, and be called "Rockit Mountain". The rumors were that it wasn't clear if the "Rockit" version would be used from day one, however.

has anybody here actually been lucky enough to ride it when it's been open for the short periods of time? if so what time of the day was it? I will be there June 20 - 23 and am hoping to luck out and be able to ride it. Got my fingers crossed.

also didn't it already go underground 2 or 3 stories anyway?

Well, Ariel, I think that CM was just yanking your chain. The boards at www.mouseplanet.com are full of DL locals, and there is nothing there about any of this. The track layout is the same. They did "build down" when the ride was originally constructed so the building wouldn't be so tall. The idea that they were doing any guest testing on or before May 5 is rubbish. According to MP posts from around the 23rd of May, they hadn't even got the crew set for running the ride. There have been test runs with suits from TDA and workers, but not with the public.

This is from www.miceage.com
The testing of Space Mountain is going extremely well though, and the most aggressive plans now being thrown around would have soft openings for the general public by the first few days in July, and a possible day long operation during the busy 4th of July weekend. They would still have a formal opening ceremony during the media event on July 15th through the 17th, but if things continue on the current path daily Space Mountain openings would be two weeks old by that point.

I don't shoot the messenger Ariel, you're just repeating what you heard. Front line CMs are not a very reliable source of information like this in my experience.

Don't expect to be able to ride it before July 4th weekend. And then you may only get a chance to ride it until July 15th.
