Souvenir Buying... What Are Your Automatic Must-Purchases / Plans?

Mine are:

- The larger year dated coffee mug (the ones that hold 2 cups) that is specifically walt disney world and not the disney parks one. (harder to find but does exist)
- I try to find a shift that isn't too disney and in my size. Generally I'm unsuccessful.

My Daughter:
- Fancy Popcorn Container.
- some type of shirt
- a dated pin and a hard to find pin(s) if they are in stock (thanks shop disney app).

Mugs (the caps and tee's as well) are a killer for me. I have to be careful. I try to stick with the RESORT and PARK year dated mugs only. If I stick to that plan I'm good. Otherwise I will buy the EPCOT mug, the Space Mountain mug, the 7DMT mug, the Grand Floridian mug (my planned Afternoon Tea visit) or tee's and whatever. It's okay if I get something like a 7DMT MAGNET or an EPCOT magnet or keychain, etc. But with regard to the more expensive items I tell myself it's RESORT and PARK and nothing more. So hopefully I will stick to my list and let it be! lol.

At minimum 3 new ornaments with one being dated of visit (we have one tree dedicated to Disney)
New set of "special" ears..I have the ears random all over the house on display similar to hidden mickeys and a tiny pic of us in the ears next to it (this year Christmas!)
New tshirts or sweatshirts or whatever catches our eyes (I hope holiday theme this year)
Always something random for the kitchen store, lego store
Picture frame
Magnet from the resort we stayed (this year will be beach club)
Several boxes of candy we give as gifts and share at our parties

This is my first trip back to WDW in almost 7 years. I imagine there will be ALOT of shopping.

This isn't going to help but I consider every time to get both sizes just to be able to put away the smaller one for that day I break the larger one. I've never done it but I lost a couple with a dishwasher malfunction once and in this case you can't replace them.

Yes, its a 15 YEAR absence for me! So I am giddy and stupid right about now, and I too want to splurge a bit (ergo the music box and a very nice picture frame). I forgot about the couple of boxes of Chocolate Covered Mickey Ears pretzels. I think I will get those for the crew at work.

I am thinking that I am going to allow my photographs to serve as the other souvenirs (Epcot, AK, Splash Mountain, etc.). After all I think they are the best souvenirs of all.

You are right... it's not going to help me, lol.
I too think about those things - purchase more than one just in case one breaks, etc. I remedy that by only using my Disney mugs on occasion. And I do indeed either purchase TWO of something with the thought of having one for the occasional house use and one to really actively use and/or carry off to work with me. There has to be a purchase or two that you are getting good use of - otherwise what's the point! Usually, I get the good use out of the baseball caps! (*_*)

I am a sucker for vintage style t-shirts, especially ones that look a bit unique and not mass-produced. Yes I know they're all mass produced at Disney, but if it isn't over-the-top Disney and has a little character (no pun intended), I'll want it.

No actually that makes a lot of sense to me.
I think I know what kind you're talking about. I love those things. I'm just too stuck on that "annual date" design to display when I was there.

On my first visit in 97 I purchased a huge, but light weight - VERY unique canvas MINNIE bag as my park bag. Since that year... I have NOT seen that particular bag since! I carried it in the parks for the next three years straight. But now - with this being my 15 year absence return visit - long story short - I no longer have that tote. Some of their items are indeed produced in limited quantities never to be seen again. I saw that Minnie bag on ebay once and didnt get it. I should have. It held EVERYTHING while still being light weight, and with the ability to place over my shoulder. It had 3D ears that stuck out and her large polka dot bow. Every year people asked where I got it and I told them... I got it here at WDW in 97. But never to be seen again. Get your vintage Tee's!

hubby seems to choose a tee every year...but doesnt say park or year..just a cool disney one.

A Christmas ornament and some little jewelry item are at the top of my list every trip. As you can see by my avatar, I am not exactly restricted to those things. LOL. I still think of Sven as the real star of "Frozen"....and when I saw this guy in the gift shop of the Norway pavilion last year, he was mine in a hurry.

I have an amazing collection of beautiful mugs, the line which were all about the same size, each from a Disney movie. Would love to add a few new ones but haven't seen the same style for the newer movies. I have big WDW and DL mugs, as well as some holiday ones. Don't need anymore but I like to think of them as functional art! Yes, I serve drinks in them, too, soccer mom.

This year I am thinking about finally getting myself a set of Mickey head flatware. I fear the time of frequent visits to WDW is coming to a close for us, and setting my table with these would bring happy memories every day. Still looking for just the right salt and pepper set.

As we tend to travel in Nov, we usually smuggle home some Disney stocking stuffers and treats. Mickey mints, coconut patties, etc. Last year the big hit was those Frozen-themed rice Krispy treats. I wonder what it will be this year? What a happy, happy thought.

Well..my last two trips I overdid the souvenir buying..so this time I am keeping it to a pin, new Mackey Ears..some Vinlymation if they still have them and maybe a piece of jewelry.

I usually get an ornament of some kind and one or two pins which usually are themed for a special event MNSHHP, MVMCP, SWW, F&G or F&W. I tend to buy my shirts from the local Disney Outlet or Disney store online because they have cute ones that are usually $15 or two for $20 or $25. I also like to pick up something for the kitchen like a potholder or towels.

On our last Epcot park day, we head over to Mousegears, stop at the checkout desk and ask for a shipping label, which I fill out as we shop. This is where we pick out most of our stuff that we have seen all week, and hold off buying until the Mousegears trip (of course if we see something that is specific, say at Germany or a shop in DHS, we will grab it). Then we make one big purchase and have it sent home! After getting back to the normal work schedule and being bummed about vacation being over, nothing is better than getting that package in the mail with all our Disney World stuff!

For a while, we were purchasing beach towels from all the rides, which was fun!

I'm thinking of doing a Photo Album as well. And I forgot about the fresh Pearl from Japan / Epcot!

On the last couple of trips I have also collected several of the Vera Bradley bags. The backpack I now use for my park bag, the large tote bag I carry to work and the cosmetic bag is my toolkit to take to art classes on weekends. I also have several pairs of earrings that are kind of Hidden Mickey's that I love to wear.

These days is seems I buy fewer things, but they are more expensive! But that first trip back after 10 years, I wanted everything!!

The flatware and another post is reminding me that I do want something for the kitchen. If just an oven mit or cookie jar, or dish towel, or salt and pepper shaker!

Your Sven is too cute!

I think that's me after 15 years (I arrive back on Oct 28th)... I want to make sure I get a number of things. I'm certain that I will relax once I start my yearly visits again. I'd like to get to a point where I get some dated stuff - new resort design - trinkets and call it a day. My special purchases this year are just to celebrate my much overdue return.

O.K. mine is a little expensive. I go twice a year lately so I don't buy this each trip, just once a year.

A Dooney Purse
A mask from Italy
A stein for my son from Germany
A Disney watch
Either a gold or silver charm for one of my bracelets (I have a gold regular charm bracelet, a silver regular charm bracelet and a silver just disney bracelet I'm obsessed with dangling tinkly bracelets)
Usually a shirt of some sort but because I'm either cold and need something now or I didn't bring the right things.
An ornament
If I'm there for a special occasion like F&G or F&W a pin for that
A big ole mickey rice krispie head (just plain) for hubby
Usually one or two xmas gifts.
