Souvenir Buying... What Are Your Automatic Must-Purchases / Plans?

Fun thread to read LadyDiznee:-)
We go once a year.
I purchase a Vera Bradley bag/purse each trip. They are so pretty and I get so many compliments on them::yes::
I always purchase a new kitchen item.
Lately I've been purchasing an Alex and Ani Disney bracelet each trip.
I always purchase items in Japan for DD - great things to put into her stocking at Christmas such as candies, fans, socks, beauty products ...

usually a shirt and an ornament. Also more recently, anything and everything I can afford from Momento Mori! :rolleyes1

Ugh. I would look forward to the day where I'd be satisfied with just a shirt. Good for you! But you they'll love you at Momento Mori. I will be bypassing ALL attraction souvenirs except for pressed pennies. Maybe I'll do a couple of fridge magnets or key chains.

Thanks Laughing Place.

I too am looking to return once a year and I am thinking about at least a one new kitchen item each year. It doesn't have to be extravagant... but ultimately I'd like a collection of things! May start with Salt/Pepper shakers or measuring spoons, or an oven mitt.

I forgot to note that I a pair of Chop Sticks from Japan are a must as well!

We aren't huge souvenir buyers. I have a son that collects mugs so he always gets a mug, my two youngest always get a hat or stuffed animal, and my other two usually get a shirt or something. I have no musts. I buy t-shirts for the trip before I get there, either on clearance at Disney or at Wal-mart when I stop in for snacks. I will usually buy something though and it changes each trip. Last trip I bought a hoodie.

This year I got a 2015 cinch drawstring back pack before the trip. With five kids I'd be limiting my souvenirs as well!
I'm going SOLO this year. I think its the memories via the photo's that are best, along with the overall experience! My plan is to not let 15 years get away from me again, and always plan a yearly trip... so if I end up only doing a two or three night trip... I will be satisfied with only getting a resort mug and Park dated baseball cap and call it a day!

Have you purchased the photo from Memento Mori? Youngest DD had her photo taken here and it shows her/her 'ghost' self. Really fun (and creepy looking) souvenir! I learned about this picture from the DIS. It is a unique store:-)

O.K. mine is a little expensive. I go twice a year lately so I don't buy this each trip, just once a year.

A Dooney Purse
A mask from Italy
A stein for my son from Germany
A Disney watch
Either a gold or silver charm for one of my bracelets (I have a gold regular charm bracelet, a silver regular charm bracelet and a silver just disney bracelet I'm obsessed with dangling tinkly bracelets)
Usually a shirt of some sort but because I'm either cold and need something now or I didn't bring the right things.
An ornament
If I'm there for a special occasion like F&G or F&W a pin for that
A big ole mickey rice krispie head (just plain) for hubby
Usually one or two xmas gifts.

I say if you if you've got the money put aside for it or can just afford to do it.... DO IT! :flower1:
Love the Mask from Italy choice!

And I forgot that I will be getting something for the Food and Wine.. if just a Magnet. I'll be going to the Boys II Men Epcot Eat To The Beat Concert (with Pre-Dinner reservation) and so those pics will be a souvenir as well.

Oh that's right. I want one of those too! Big Sigh... it may be at the bottom of my list. I've got nine days (alone) and its real easy for those purchases to add up. But I'm putting that on my list!

Well..my last two trips I overdid the souvenir buying..so this time I am keeping it to a pin, new Mackey Ears..some Vinlymation if they still have them and maybe a piece of jewelry.

I think next year is going to be pretty light for me as well. I'm only going all out this year because its a 15 year absence return trip.

The past three trips I have bought a pair of earrings from the Mexico Pavillion. They are silver and turquoise. I just love them. Also I always buy a small crockery dish from the Japanese store. We have used them as cat dishes for our little dears and the latest one is used for earrings in the bathroom. I didn't get a resort mug for two years and regretted it, they are nice to use during that 2 hour, 4 feet of snow and ice winter commute.

Yes, this is why I get the resort merchandise over with as soon as I arrive. I don't want it to get away from me. You can always get use out of a resort mug even if you dont use it often... and they're just a great memento of your time at that resort that particular year.

On our last Epcot park day, we head over to Mousegears, stop at the checkout desk and ask for a shipping label, which I fill out as we shop. This is where we pick out most of our stuff that we have seen all week, and hold off buying until the Mousegears trip (of course if we see something that is specific, say at Germany or a shop in DHS, we will grab it). Then we make one big purchase and have it sent home! After getting back to the normal work schedule and being bummed about vacation being over, nothing is better than getting that package in the mail with all our Disney World stuff!

For a while, we were purchasing beach towels from all the rides, which was fun!

Going to have to go on line and check out some Mousegear pics.. .maybe there are some on YouTube.

UPDATE:
Checking it out now. It says Housewears. Maybe I'll shop there before I automatically pick up my kitchen item from Emporium or WOD.

Wow. You guys do some serious souvenir shopping!

We buy an ornament to commemorate every trip we take, WDW or elsewhere. It has to fit one of our tree themes which alternates from vintage to metals to crystal (the bling tree which is my fav).

The other thing I collect is Christmas salt and pepper shakers so were alwats on the lookout for those. Otherwise DD12 may get a t shirt or hoodie. That's about it.

MOUSEGEAR Rocks!

This is a great video. I'm pretty sure I will get the MICKEY ICE CUBE TRAYS. I have to watch those mugs though. I saw one with Tiana on it and I don't know whether or not to make that a MUST. It will surely temp me though. Her and Merida. But if I see a SEVEN DWARFS mug... all bets are off... I'm buying those puppies! (*_*)

Lots of great stuff here to view!

Thanks to Harambe for bringing up MouseGears!

A list would take a long time to write out. Ill buy anything in the Disney souvenir stand.

Write it out a little at at time TurnedToStoneGirl... we want to see it! You may turn us on to something we'd like have as well! At least give us your top five or ten! (*_*)

Every trip, I get a mask from Italy in Epcot. It turned into me collecting masks from elsewhere too, so I have one from Morocco (the actual country lol) and New Orleans.

This trip, I also 100% NEED the ghost portrait souvenir from Memento Mori. A co worker came back in april with one and it looks fantastic.

I'm thinking of doing a Photo Album as well. And I forgot about the fresh Pearl from Japan / Epcot!
i made photo books for the kids..but i have TOO many pics..i do memory maker...so i pick 400 pics...lol...never an issue and put them in. The first year 2010 i didnt get it and have regretted it since...the 2011 trip i got it, and will again next february.

Salt and Pepper Shakers are on my must list now.
It's one of those things I can look forward to using year round without risk of it getting damaged (for the most part) - and may probably purchase two sets just in case one DOES get damaged in anyway. I think I will make that a yearly thing as well. I may purchase a higher end set and cheaper set. That might be what I'll do for my special high end list... if I find a "nicer" set of Salt and Pepper shaker, I just may indeed pick it up as a treat to myself for my 15 year absence.

Thanks for sharing!

I can understand. My trips in the past produced between 700 to 1000 pics per visit. Which is why I will always stick to the story that your best souvenirs are your pics! That was with my former husband. But now going on a SOLO trip - I will surely choose the best photos for my first album and take my time to purchase the other albums, because I will definitely want to house them all and not just digitally!

Thanks for sharing!

I've seen them (those zombie photos) on YouTube. Love them as well!

Love your piglet pic. You see, that alone is a souvenir to end all souvenirs! Nothing like those memories!

HERE IS THAT ZOMBIE PIC everyone is talking about!
