Southwest Travel Funds

I have Southwest travel funds that expire 2-19-14. Does that mean I have to book a future flight by 2-19-14 (say I use them for may 2014) to use them or I have to use them for a flight that takes place before 2-19-14?

The date of the flight. And all money for that flight will expire 2-19-14, not just the travel funds in case you cancel or change.

You have to complete your travel by 2-18-14.. So your return flight has to be on or before Feb 18.

If it were me.. I would book two one way tickets. Use the travel funds to pay for the outbound flight then pay by CC for the return flight. What will happen is that if you book a round trip ticket any money you have to pay toward the ticket for the price difference will take on the expiration date of the travel funds (2-19-14) that way if something happens and you have to cancel or change your flights you won't loose that extra money you had to pay toward the ticket.

And keep in mind that you can extend the credits after they expire for a charge. Sometimes it is worth it. They become LUV vouchers, that can be used by anyone, and you could use the LUV vouchers from several people for one new ticket. This is helpful if you have credits belonging to kids that do not fly often, for example.

The charge is $100 per ticket to extend the expiration date for 6 months. You have to wait till the funds expire before asking for the extension
