Southwest Rewards

DH and I want to get APs next year and take several trips. We live 10 hours away and would like to fly at least some of the time.
Can anyone tell me about SW rewards? Is that a CC? And how difficult is it to redeem this rewards when you are ready?

SW rewards is the easiest of the airline programs, no blackout dates, consistent point ratio, easy cancelation policy etc.

You do not need to have a SW cc to use it, just sign up (and get a few bonus points) CC can get you 50,000 points if you sign up at the right time.

You can earn lots of extra points also from buying on line though many retailers though the rewards web site.
