Just called Southwest and spoke to a CSR. She stated that they would be releasing the new prices and schedule for flights occuring after August 13th on March 29th. I didn't get the date that they would be releasing to as it is usually a 3 month window and we are traveling in September. Hope this helps someone else that is on a budget and needs to plan to buy tickets.

Has it been you all's experience that the sooner you purchase the tickets the least expensive they are? Usually that is the case, but last time, we purchased them and then they had them cheaper on Ding like a week later! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

It really depends on your flight, city, and date of travel. Often, they do go down. For us, they usually go up because we are buying for dates when many of our schools have a "fall break", so a lot of families are booking airfare the same weekend.

If you see a price you like, book it. If you want to wait you have to see it as a gamble. You may end up paying more, or you may find a deal. If you travel often, then the credit if your fare goes down is a great thing, if you don't travel often, it doesn't really work for you.

Good luck!

We book as soon as the fare comes open since this is normally the cheapest fare. But I look at the fares and get Ding so if the fare drops a lot I cancel my reservations and rebook using the money form the original reservation. You don't get a refund but you do get a year to use your money. Since we normally travel southwest having a credit is okay because we will spend the money on a future flight.

Using the link provided by the PP, the site now says the next flights will open up on Feb 9.

We are currently accepting air reservations through August 12, 2011. On February 8, we will open our schedule for sale through September 30, 2011. This date is subject to change! Please check back frequently.

This confused me too, until I looked at the original post date and it was January of last year.

This really confused me too Wendy. Thanks for pointing out the difference in the date of this post!

This really stinks though....we are leaving for WDW on Sept 22nd and coming home either Oct. 1st or 2nd depending on which day had better returning flights. They couldn't just extend it through the first weekend!!! Man this really stinks.

I've been in that same boat. HAd to book one leg of my trip and then wait how ever many months to book the leg home. It worked out fine.

Yeah, it seems like I had to book one way and then wait to book the other way until they opened up a new scheduled every time we fly to Orlando. It actually works out fine. Especially if you take advantage of lower fares.
