A DING! fare has come out that is lower than my existing fare. If I go into the Travel Center and cancel my existing fare it gives me the option to have a portion of that fare (the taxes) refunded or held for future use. If I choose to have that portion refunded, will the rest of the funds from the fare that I am cancelling be immediately available to reuse as Ticketless Travel Funds? I want to be able to use those funds right away to book the lower DING! fare.

They should be available within a couple of minutes. I have done this in the past and it took a couple of minutes for the system to update the web site with the TT funds. You may want to check with SWa just to be sure. Keep in mind that you do run the risk of losing the fares if someone else grabs them first...

It would be such a shame to lose fare because your SWA credit was not yet available.
Does anyone know if SWA puts a complimentary hold on fares (for a few minutes/hours ).
I know that at least one airline in Canada does and was just wondering if SWA does also (especially in cases like these).
But maybe not since DING fares have to be booked only on-line.

What about starting to book the DING fare on one screen, then minimizing it while you cancel the original fare.
Has anyone ever done this? If so, how long will the minimized screen (lower fare) last before the session times out????

Thanks everyone. It worked just as I hoped. I opened two browser windows. In one window I got to the point where I was ready to purchase the new DING! fare. In the other browser window, I cancelled my existing reservation and chose to have the refundable portion refunded. The remaining funds were immediately available to use as Ticketless Travel Funds. I then booked the lower DING! fare with those funds.
