Southwest Rapid Rewards & Budget rental cert.

Has anyone ever used their SW RR points to buy a budget rental car certificate from SW RR? If so how does it work? Can you use a discount code with it? What are their restrictions?

SW RR site says to read the back of the certificate for restrictions, but I'd have to redeem points to get ahold of the certificate to read those restrictions. It also says to call Budget. I did and they said they don't' know, call Southwest.

Ugh...
I don't want to waste the 50K points i earned on these certificates, only to find out I can't use them, or there are tons of restrictions.

Help from anyone please????

When I looked into it years ago, there were 2 downsides to using a certificate earned with FF miles. First, you could not use any discounts or coupons. While I go ta dicsount, it was off a very high price. Second, because I was not paying for all of my rental with a credit card, I would not get the additional protection that comes with that from losses to the car in the event of an accident. Depending on your personal car insurance and level of comfort with risk, you may want to purchase the CDW when using the certificate.

At the end, for me, it meant I was not saving very much by using such a certificate. -- Suzanne
