For those who have been able to change a ticket on Southwest here is a question ...
I know if the price is the same there is no fee to change but what if I want to change the name on the ticket as well ????
We just found out that we can not go in Feb. and we already bought tickets for my DH and I ... Will I be able to change the tickets to June when that opens up and use them for my DD instead ???
Thanks

If I remember correctly, unless the ticket is refundable, you will get a credit that is only good for the person the ticket was originally bought for.

Unfortunately, SW changed their rules. Yes, you can cancel a flight and get a credit. But that credit has to be used by the person it is issued to...the person who was going to use that ticket. So, no, the credit is not going to be transferrable. Sorry.

Both are correct.

Thanks for the information ...
What if it was a reward ticket ... What will the outcome be ???
It was when it was still a "free flight" not the new point system ...
Will it still also have expiration date too ????
Thanks

Don't believe it has anything to do with the rewards. It's all based on your purchase. The policy went into effect this past Jan / Feb. Yes it will have a expiration date of the date it was purchased.

Well then it should work out ok I think ...
I thought that the original exp.date would hold true to the "reward" but if it is based on the purchase date then we can wait and use it for the original people.
I had three one way free flights (visa deal) but they were set to expire in early march so we got some tickets in early September for February but now need to push our trip to early June. So the "reward" flights will have to be used by the original people but we will have until September to redeem/travel using them now instead of March.
Thanks again for the great information.
I like knowing my options before I call !!!

If your award flights originally expired March 2012, then they still will. Booking flights with them in Sept 2011 had no effect on their expiration. If you cancel the Feb 2012 flights, the awards will go back to the account they were originally in and will still expire March 2012. At one point you could pay to extend the expiration date, but that option may no longer be available as this type of award flight has been phased out due to being replaced with Southwest's point system. Once you cancel the flights, you should be able to go to the Rapid Reward account online and see them there and clearly see the expiration dates to verify that they're still March 2012.

In my experience Reward flights could be used by anyone. Just like the points now. You can book for anyone and if the flight isn't taken then the points just go back into the pot. I have no idea if once you book a reward ticket whether you can change the name, but it's worth calling about.

So the "rewards" will go back into my account (the account they came from) will still have the same exp. date but will be able to be used for "other people." If that is the case then I will have to have my DD's use them to get to TX for the holidays instead of using them for our June trip. Not idea but at least they will not goto waste.
The only problem is that without having them in my account right now I can not even see if there are any reward trips available for SAT to IND untill I cancle and get them back into my account. Hopefully it is automatic !!! I will call on Monday ...
Thanks Again ...

Yes, you now have it correct! And to see availability of award seats, you can go online and "change" your current reservation. You can always cancel without making the change, but you can see what award seats are available that way.
