Thanks to all who suggested SW...we got a flight for 69 us one way!

If, by any chance, it goes cheaper, can we get our money back, or are we locked in for 69 us...which, is still a great deal!

How does it work....I have never booked a flight online before..how do we get our tickets.

We leave in Sept..

If the price drops you can get money back in the form of a credit that is valid for future travel.

You will not get paper tickets. All you get is the confirmation that they email to you, print that out. You can either check in online or at the airport. SW does not assign seats they have A, B and C boarding groups. If you hope to get an A you must check in online 24 hours before departure time. After you have done this you can either print your boarding passes at home or at an airport kiosk when you get to the airport.

I would suggest that you do a search of these boards for info on SW check in and boarding. You will definitely learn a ton from other peoples experiences.

If you booked your flight online then your itinerary/receipt that you printed out after booking on-line (it was likely emailed to you from SW) acts as the ticket for all in your party. 24hrs prior to your flight time you can check-in online at the Southwest website. As the previous poster stated, after you check-in online you can print out your boarding passes or wait till you get to the airport and print them out at a kiosk or when you check your luggage.

If cheaper flights come up you can buy those tickets and take a credit for the tickets you already bought but remember...you must use that credit within one year of the date you booked the flight not within one year of the cancelled flight date. I believe you can even give your credits to someone else.

If you check in online from home, you'll get boarding passes for category A. This will allow you to board the plane right after those with disabilities and young children. If you wait until you reach the airport to check in, you may not be among the first to board. So if your seat location is important to you, you may want to do this from home.

and yes, you can give the credit to someone else to use. It is logged by the confirmation number, not the name. I have done this several times over the last year or so with family, friends and co-workers. We just "sell" the credit to whomever is travelling next to make sure it gets used up within the year of booking.

I looked around the SW site and this is the only thing close to what you asked.

"Priority preboarding is available for those who have a specific seating need to accommodate their disability and/or need assistance in boarding the aircraft. If a Customer has a disability and requires preboarding, the Customer should request a blue preboarding sleeve from our Customer Service Agent positioned at the Departure Gate. The sleeve serves as notification to our Operations (Boarding) Agent that the Customer has a need to preboard. It’s important to keep in mind that Customers who preboard may not occupy an emergency exit seat."

You can ask at the departure gate. The worst that can happen is they say no.

If you are travelling with a four year old you are eligble for preboarding but you still have to get a boarding pass. You are in a separate lineup and board prior to the "A's".

It is only the parent that can preboard with the child though -- you can't have aunts, uncles, cousins etc. all preboarding with one 4 year old.

If you preboard you can't sit in the exit rows.

You will not neccessarily get an A card. It depends on the time you check in and how many other people are also trying to check in. Also, they have an equal number of A cards for those checking in at the airport(you would need to be there early). I was told this directly from SW.

You can pre board with your 4 year old. They allow the preboard for children under 5, but you must have a preboard sleeve or stamp on your card or else you will not be allowed. If you intend to preboard your group (A,B,C) doesn't matter that much.
