Our flights to Disney just dropped $17 each way. I know there is a process to get the new price, but I don't know what it is. Can someone spell this out for me ASAP before the prices go back up? Thanks so much!

Honestly, I would just call Southwest and they will explain how to do it. I've done it many times and it is easy.

Yay for saving on flights!

You will need the confirmation number(s) for your flight. Plus you will also need the names associated with each confirmation.

  • Go to the southwest.com website
  • Click on "Travel Tools" in the upper right corner
  • Choose "Change Air Reservation" from the drop down menu
  • Enter the confirmation number and names in the appropriate boxes and click continue
  • Choose which flights to change. You will be "changing" your flight even if you are choosing the exact same flight for a lower fare
  • Confirm that you wish to change the flight when the pop up window comes up
  • Make any changes to the date on the next page. If you still intend to fly the same day, just click "select new flights"
  • Choose your new fare from the available fares on the next page and click continue
  • Confirm your changes on the next page. You should see a "credit" in the calculations if you are purchasing a lower fare
  • Enter the appropriate information on the next page and click "I want to make these changes"
  • Print your confirmation page You should also get an email confirming your changes.

Not sure if you know this, but any credit needs to be used (booked and traveled) within 1 year of the original booking. So if you book a flight today, and the price goes down next month, you need to fly again, using the credit, sometime before May 2, 2013.

I just got a credit last night. I booked with points online and I just logged in , went to my travel plans, clicked on the change link, chose my new flight and it instantly gave me back 1,200 points in my account :thumbsup2

All but one leg of our flights were booked with points. I got enough back to get a $50 Wal Mart gift card that I plan to use to get a Disney gift card. (Not sure if they sell them at Wal Mart/Sam's or not, but if they don't, I'll just take the money I'd usually spend at Wal Mart and order gift cards.)

Do points also need to be used within a year of the original booking, like $$? I think they do, but I want to be sure. TIA

This thread is almost a year old, but I wanted to bump it just to ask if this info... being able to rebook a SW flight if sometime soon after the fare comes down for a credit... is still the same in 2013?

And what if we don't use the credit of the difference within a year of the original booking date? I saw somewhere else... not sure... that you can pay something like $50 or so to extend and keep the balance of the credit?

(thanks in advance)

Yes, you can still do this. You will have one year from the date that the flight was originally booked to use the credit. And the credits can only be used by the people for whom the ticket had been originally issued.

If they cannot use the credit before it expires, you can pay to extend the credit for $100. The extended credit can be used by anyone.

Note: Each person's credit is separate, so if you have a family of 4 and each person's ticket was reduced by $17, they each get a $17 credit. To extend all of those credits, it would cost $400: $100 per person.

Whoa! Really? In other words... unless you got a HUGE reduction by rebooking... paying the extension fee per person essentially kills it (if you can't fly within that 1 year period)

Pretty much. But if you had to cancel an entire trip for which each person paid $200-$300, then the $100 pp extension fee isn't as painful. SWA takes the extension fee from whatever the credit balance is, so you're not forking out more money to extend a credit. The re-issued credit is just reduced by $100.

:thumbsup2 This!

We have rebooked twice already for our August trip. It really is easy and straight forward. Good luck.
