SouthWest is offering 50K points Credit Card again

The annual fee does not count towards the $2000. We almost did not get our points because we had just spent $2000 with fee. Just by chance we called to check on our points and that is when we found out we had not spent enough. We had to make a purchase that day in order to get our points.

Thanks for the confirmation. I will be sure to spend a bit more.

Yes, you can have the standard, the premiere, and the business card if you wish.

I applied for the standard and was approved! I'm assuming this new card comes with a new Rapid Rewards Number (instead of using my old number I have with my Premier card and linking them),correct??

I applied and was approved! How long will it take before I get the physical card, or is there a way to get the card number before the card comes? I want to use it to buy my Orbitz/Ebates tickets with the 20% cash back, but I'm afraid the deal will end before I get a card number.

I got my card! However, the statement closed after only 1 week, I had 2,000 in pending charges but those didn't count in time, now I will have to wait 1 more month... anybody ever called and asked for the statement closing date to be moved up? sw window for our dates opens up early march. thanks

I moved up my date- I think I did it online (this was a year ago), or I'm sure you can call.

I applied last Sunday, Feb. 16 and received my card in the mail today. I find it interesting that in a very thick envelope full of info, no where did I find a reminder that I need to spend $2000 in the first 90 days.

Hey! This is a bit old so not sure if you're still reading this. I checked our card online today and noticed that they had moved the closing date up from what was originally posted and our charges were still pending as well. I called and was told that they request the points depending on when the spending threshold is reached and do not wait until the closing date. Did this happen for you?? I'm really hoping that we get our points ASAP (and not the quoted 4-6 weeks) so I'm just crossing my fingers that this is what they actually do! Thanks!

Got the card in January and started charging, missed the closing date by about $200 so now I'm waiting for the next cycle to get my points.

I called today to ask for the statement closing date to get moved up since I reached my spending a few days after the statement closed. The lady told me that the closing date doesn't matter, they will give the points 4-6 weeks (or 6-8 weeks) now i can't remember, after the spending threshold is met. She said they will notice you spent the money and then award the points just gotta wait it out. I guess I am going to miss the opening window in a few days, will just have to wait for a fare sale I am really hopeing to get some 5,000 pt segments like the current sale thats going on and really stretch those points! Just a note I have also been using the online shopping tool from southwest and those points have added up quickly too!

Just signed up for a card for me and one for my husband. Can anyone tell me if you can combine the reward points into one account, or do you need to use them seperately?

Thanks! Oops, just found the answer...

I'm glad you were told the same thing. I am just really hoping to have the points before 3/31.

We have a total of 4 of the Southwest cards and I can tell you from experience you get the points when your statement closes. Every card was the same no matter when I reached my $2k. It will be in your Rapid Rewards account 2 days after your statement closes. We called to try to get them to close my mom's statement early and they would not do it. I could change the due date, but they said it wouldn't process until the month following when it was requested.

I have also had 4, and had the exact same experience with each one of mine.

Oh now I am really annoyed they changed our closing date. It was 3/7 but when I checked yesterday all of a sudden it was 3/26! I guess I just have to hope the points do show up 3/28 and I can scramble and book before 3/31. Ugh!!

Didn't work out that way for me! Our statement closed Feb 9th. I met the spending requirement a few days before that. As of a few minutes ago, the only points we were given was what we earned by spending the $2k, NOT the 50K promo points. Not showing on the Chase Southwest Visa site or my Rapid Rewards Account. I called about a week ago and was told that it could take 6-8 weeks AFTER you meet the spending requirement for the points to show up in your account. This seems CRAZY :scared1: that it should take that LONG for a simple electronic transaction and I know lots of people who post that they get their promo points a few days after the statement closes for the month that they meet the requirement but...... You can't count on that. Not the same for everyone. :headache:

Now I'm really worried! I was just approved last night and planned to spend the $2,000 right away to pay for our condo reservation. I had hoped to be able to move the closing date up and have the bonus points within a few weeks so I could use the points to buy our tickets. My parents and I are taking my 4 nephews to Disneyland this summer. When I first started planning last year, their 100,000 bonus points from last year would cover all the tix round trip. Now, the rates have pretty much doubled which is why we both just applied for more cards. One of our return flight options already sold out so I was trying to hurry and get the points fast. Yikes! Now I'm back to panicking. Southwest, please, please, please run a sale on my tickets!! I haven't seen any discount on them at all since they were released.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I read sooo many posts on disboards of people who got their points in just a few days that I just automatically thought that would be the case for me too! :confused3
NOPE! of course not!
But you may be one of the lucky ones!

I have a quick question. I think I know the answer but would like some confirmation.

Do I get to keep my reward points after I cancel my credit card? I think the answer is yes, right?
