Southwest is giving 50,000 points again

I just looked at my bill and was charged the $99 fee. I thought it was $69? I used the link here. I thought I saw someone else was charged the fee of $99 (premier/signature card). Any luck on getting them to change it?

When I had talked with airport credit card pushers, they said it was all dependent upon what your credit rate qualified you for. The $69 annual fee was for people who had exceptionally great credit, the $99 was for most people. l doubt they would switch the card/programs for you, but I guess you could call and ask.

WOW, just two hours ago, I applied online and it's already showing in my Chase account online. Normally, the Chase Disney Visa site is extremely slow at updating any information.

I would love to know if I got the $69 or $99 annual fee. I can't find anything that says which one it is. Guess I need to wait until I get a paper statement. Just opened up the account today - I should be happy I already have a cc #.

This is not true. There are 2 different leveled cards. The premier card is $99 annually which also entitles you to a 6,000 point annual bonus. The signature card is a $69 annual fee with a 3,000 point annual bonus. I believe you need better credit for the premier card.

Yep, that is correct! Those with better credit will qualify for the signature card, but it comes with a higher fee and twice the bonus points at each year's anniversary. I've had my card for 1 1/2 years now and have come across some good deals with the signature card, like B1G1 free movie tickets from Fandango for Friday movies, and free car rental collision coverage. Just use your Visa for the rental, decline the insurance coverage at the rental counter and you are covered for any damages, including the deductible you'd normally have to pay your own insurance company and "loss of use" that your own car insurance will not cover. It also comes with free $250K travel accident insurance for you and immediate family members who are traveling with you. :goodvibes

I wonder if a college student who works part time can get approved? My daughter will be a senior after this semester. On our last trip to Orlando a SW employee was trying to get passengers to signup for SW Visa cards. I told him I already have one and he pointed at my daughter and her fiance and asked if they had one. I told him no and he suggested they get one even if they don't use it after the $2000.00 required to get the points.

My husband, daughter, and I talked it over. Spending the $2000 would not be a problem as we own our own business. We pay off our cards each month so that won't be a problem either. My daughter has cards in her wallet on our accounts and is very responsible.

Please point out any faults in my thinking. We would have the points to spend on flights, My daughter would add to her credit history (she has an excellent credit score thanks to medical bills, etc that were billed in her name and paid each month).

Am I missing anything? Do you think they will approve a full time student who works part time?

Thanks,

Penny

There probably isn't any harm in her applying but a lot will depend on how much she is making at her part-time job. Chase has income thresholds that applicants need to meet for their co-branded rewards cards. She may not qualify but the worst that they can say is NO.

My son was not approved, even though he already has a Citibank Visa, and a couple of student loans, with perfect payment histories. They cited not enough income from his part time job.

Thank you both! I don't want to hurt the credit rating she has now if they will not give her a card anyway.

You can purchase points to make up the difference so that you have enough points for the ticket. You'd have to do the math to see if it would be worth it.

Thanks, but I have plenty of points for the tickets. I just need to use the $300 credits my husband and I got when our October flights went down in price. Being a novice, I didn't realize you had to use them within a year of the original purchase (or original flight, whatever it is), so I am scrambling to use them before they expire.

I booked one way on a different airline with their points. My theory was I'd book the flight out on them and the flight back on Southwest, since we might be more likely to need to check a bag coming back. Shopping and all. Unfortunately, I didn't factor in the fact that we are coming back Easter weekend. Southwest has had sales, but they always exclude our travel date. I guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and buy the expensive ticket.

Live and learn.

I just applied for my DH and myself tonight.

I was accepted immediately (I have another Chase card in my name), but I was told DH's is pending.

Is it because he doesn't have a card at Chase, or because I used the same email for both?

Our credit is excellent, so I am sure that isn't the problem.

Anyone have this happen?

We are considering the card but are unsure of whether it is worth it. Could anyone tell me approx. how many points it would cost for a ticket from Portland to Orlando?

you can view this on SWA's website. Pretend you're booking a flight. It will display in $$ but you can change it to display in points. easy peasy. :goodvibes

I did basically the same thing. One was approved instantly & the other remained pending for several days :-(

The one that was approved appeared on the Chase log in page the next day. The other appeared on the Chase log in a day or so before it was "approved".

Absolutely no idea why. Excellent credit & lots of Chase cards :confused3 just one of those things I guess.

Both were approved eventually, so I guess it really did not matter in the end, but had me wondering at the time as well.

I am sure it will all end up fine :thumbsup2

We got DH's card in the mail this weekend. We clicked the 50,000 mile link to apply. No paper work came with the card talking about this offer. Will we still get the 50,000 miles?

Thanks. I guess I will just wait. We aren't planning to use the tickets until our December, 2013 cruise. I just couldn't stomach the thought of $400 tickets to Fort Lauderdale.

DH applied and got the Disney Chase card last year. No paperwork about the $200 gift card. We got it anyway.

I am guessing same thing with this card. You will just see the miles in your Chase account as soon as you meet the guidelines.

And if you're concerned, DH can call the Chase number on his card and verify that he will indeed receive the 50,000 miles. :thumbsup2
