Southwest is giving 50,000 points again

Gah! Apparently the offer is back down to 25,000 points now. Does anyone know how often they do the 50,000 points offer?

Has anyone considered doing something like this with their SWA points...?

We already have our flights paid for for our next Orlando trip, but am wondering if it's possible to buy a bunch of $50 Walmart gift cards with my points, and then go to Walmart and buy Disney gift cards with them. :goodvibes

Do you think that would work? Or maybe someone is too smart for that and there is some restriction :rolleyes1

We used our 50K points to buy gift cards to all the chain restaurants near WDW....Chilis, Olive garden, Outback, TGIF's etc.

We wont have to pay for dinner the whole time we are there. This is saving us a TON of money!

Of course, this wont work if you plan on eating at WDW table service places, but we aren't disney foodies, so we don't care about TS places.

They also allow you to buy gift cards for rental car places (like budget), but I don't think you can combine promo codes with those cards so you would be paying top dollar for the car. I have researched this extensively and can't get a straight answer from anyone. But this seems to be what most believe will happen. I'm not willing to waste my 50K points to buy budget rental car cards, only to find out that it is much more expansive than I planned for.

We also got a few walmart cards and plan on going grocery shopping when we get to WDW for the townhome we are staying in.

Is this the best offer in regards to flight cards? Or would it be worth it to shop around for a different one?

Could you use the walmart cards for your monthly household expenses -- groceries, toiletries, pet products, etc. -- and then put the cash you would have spent on those items towards your trip?

Thank you so much for sharing all this info cyndik1111!

All great ideas - I may do something along those lines too :)

Or, possibly just let the miles accumulate in the account and use them for actual flights :)

One question ... the website says,

YOU'LL EARN 50,000 BONUS POINTS AFTER YOU SPEND $1,000 IN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS OF OPENING YOUR ACCOUNT – THAT'S OVER $800 IN WANNA GET AWAY?® FARES THAT CAN BE REDEEMED FOR 2 ROUNDTRIP FLIGHTS* ... A Roundtrip Flight is based on two one-way $208 Wanna Get Away?® Fares, which equals 24,960 Rapid Rewards Points roundtrip. ...50,000 Bonus Points -- Rapid Rewards points can be redeemed for Wanna Get Away?® Fares at a rate of 60 points for each $1 of fare price.

I am a family of four, interesting in buying 4 round trip tickets ... each one way is $156, or 9,360 points. Two Round Trip Tickets thus only would cost me 37,440 points. Can I use my remaining 12,560 points towards the purchase of the other tickets? Taking $209 off, which costs 12,540 points. Or do I lose the remaining points since I can only get 2 flights with the enrollment bonus?

Another way of asking ... is this promotion to give you 2 free round trip flights, or is it to give you essentially an $833 (50,000/60) Southwest Gift Card?

You can use the points to get as many flights, in any combination, that your points allow.

Or use the remaining 12k points to buy gift cards. 5K will but you a $50 gift card to different restaurants. or get a walmart card.

I just looked on the SW site and it is still 50,000

Thanks so much! I was just googling the SW airlines credit card offer and it was only coming up at 25,000 points.

I filled out the 50,000 points app and was approved!! :goodvibes Since we fly in from Salt Lake...free tickets help a lot!

I'm sorry if this has been posted already, I didn't read through them all, but the link above is for the Premier card with a $99 fee. Here's the link for the less expensive card, I think it's $69...: https://creditcards.chase.com/credit-cards/southwest-rapid-rewards-credit-card.aspx

It may not offer all that the premier card does, but it got me what I was after, which was the 50,000 points! :goodvibes

I have a question about balance transfers since I have never done one. My husband and I took out 3 cards and are spending $3000 extra this month to get the 50,000 points per card ASAP. We have the money to pay off the cards. However, I want to utilize my BOA card which offers 15 months no APR for balance transfers before the end of September. I am not 100% positive that I will do this because my husband and I like to pay off our debts immediately. Yet, I kinda like the idea of the 15 months. Anyway, I was wondering if I transferred my southwest card balance to my BOA card, would that somehow cause me to lose my 50,000 point bonus? Can balance transfers make you ineligible? Like I said before, I have no experience with balance transfers and rarely participate in credit card offers. Thanks in advance. Also, I know that balance transfers to my southwest card don't count but my question is would transferring my southwest card balance to my boa card make me ineligible for the 50,000 southwest point bonus?

Hmmm... the large print simply says spend $1,000. I would look for the fine print. It's got to be there somewhere.

If you got the BOA offer in the mail it usually comes with checks..write a check to yourself , deposit it and then just pay off the SW card...they do not know where the money comes from...when you use the check, make sure to read the paper work and use the right check... the balance is then on the BOA card... Hope that makes sense... :)

Do you earn 1 point per $1 used with card? It looks like a round trip to Orlando would cost my family of four 64,000 points. I would be 14,000 points short. Does this mean I would need to put $14,000 on the credit card to get the 14,000 points? TIA!

yes, in general $1 = 1 pt.....

however, you and your husband could each open an account and then you would have 100K pts.

however, you can also earn pts thru their rapid reward shopping site as well

Yes. But you could just pay cash for the 4th flight. Or you and your spouse could each apply for a card to have a total of 100,000 points. That is what we did. We used those to fly from MN to San Francisco, SF to LA, and LA back to MN for 4 people.
