Southwest is giving 50,000 points again

Do you earn 1 point per $1 used with card? It looks like a round trip to Orlando would cost my family of four 64,000 points. I would be 14,000 points short. Does this mean I would need to put $14,000 on the credit card to get the 14,000 points? TIA!

Or you could just spend enough to get one more one-way ticket with your points, and pay cash for the last one-way.

to spend the $1000 can you pay of another credit card?

No, under the terms you cannot spend the $1000 through balance transfers. However, you could get the points by spending $1000 on the southwest card and the transferring that balance to another card. I called about this.

I have a question about balance transfers since I have never done one. My husband and I took out 3 cards and are spending $3000 extra this month to get the 50,000 points per card ASAP. We have the money to pay off the cards. However, I want to utilize my BOA card which offers 15 months no APR for balance transfers before the end of September. I am not 100% positive that I will do this because my husband and I like to pay off our debts immediately. Yet, I kinda like the idea of the 15 months. Anyway, I was wondering if I transferred my southwest card balance to my BOA card, would that somehow cause me to lose my 50,000 point bonus? Can balance transfers make you ineligible? Like I said before, I have no experience with balance transfers and rarely participate in credit card offers. Thanks in advance. Also, I know that balance transfers to my southwest card don't count but my question is would transferring my southwest card balance to my boa card make me ineligible for the 50,000 southwest point bonus?

The balance transfer may have no APR, but dont forget to factor in the balance transfer fee if you do this!

yes, in general $1 = 1 pt.....

however, you and your husband could each open an account and then you would have 100K pts.

however, you can also earn pts thru their rapid reward shopping site as well

How long does it take for points to post to your account that you earn through the shopping site? I bought something last week and I don't see my points yet. Do they post shortly after you make the purchase or after your cc billing cycle closes for the month?

probably about 4 - 6 weeks

I hope one day soon they offer larger gas cards or Disney gift cards. We don't fly....it's just too expensive really and we'd need 100,000 points for round trip tickets to Orlando (there are 6 of us) plus the OOP expense of getting to the Atlanta airport since Southwest doesn't fly out of the airport that's 20 minutes from us. I'd rather spend our points on something else, just haven't found that 'something else' yet LOL.

We have points from the shopping site post in 5-7 days. They have not yet posted from the shopping site rewards account into the rapid rewards account yet. The online form says 8-12 weeks (which i think may be to pass the 90 day return policy for most items), but I will let you know if they do post on our next statement, which should be next week.

I am trying to decide if I want to get this card or not. I usually don't fall for the sign-on bonus, but this seems well worth it-especially if I can convince the hubby to do Disney next year ;).

If I were to charge my mortgage to meet my $1000 spending, then just pay it off right away would I get the points?

Eventually SWA will be completely taking over Airtran and they'll be flying out of Atlanta. There are other places to fly to besides Orlando; there's a whole big country out there. Grand Canyon maybe? :thumbsup2 We've been to WDW probably 20x and soon to sail our 12th cruise. The one place my kids plead to return to: Sedona, AZ. just saying....

Yes you would get the points on your next account statement. The only restrictions I saw were on balance transfers.

Now saying that, we have put pretty much all of our monthly bills on this card and pay it off monthly. We tried to pay our mortgage with the card but our lender (Wells Fargo) does not allow this. You would have to talk to a rep with your lender and find out.

Our lender is Wells Fargo too, oh well. Maybe I will just do my monthly bills than, thanks!

There are at least 2 of the 50,000 point offers out there. The one I'm seeing on the SWA web site right now has a $69 fee and you get the points after making $1000 in purchases. The second came in the mail and has a $99 fee but you get the points after your first purchase regardless of the purchase amount.

Also if you plan to keep the card, the $99 one will work out better, you get the point equivilent of $100 every year as a bonus (with the $69 one you get $50 worht of points)

Yes. But you could just pay cash for the 4th flight. Or you and your spouse could each apply for a card to have a total of 100,000 points. That is what we did. We used those to fly from MN to San Francisco, SF to LA, and LA back to MN for 4 people.

If a flight costs 10,000 points and you have 5,000 points in your account, can you apply the 5,000 points and only pay for remaining half of the flight cost, or do you need to have all 10,000 points to apply towards the flight?

You can't use points and cash combined to pay for airfare, as a round trip purchase...you can buy additonal points if you are only a few thousand short, for example 2000pts can be purchased for $50, 3000pts for $75, 5000 points for $125 etc.

You can also book one way tickets and pay one fare with points and the return fare in cash.

Hope this helps.....also once you "purchase" your airfare with points, keep watching it and if it goes down, you can cancel and rebook and get your points back into your rapid rewards account.

We would have to take a shuttle or a short flight from the Chattanooga airport to Atlanta to catch a SW flight to anywhere. SW does not fly out of Chattanooga. The shuttle is 49.00 one way x's 6 people....so that would really eat up any savings we'd get with SW flights and these points. Plus the shuttle when we got back home.....so really it's just not a good deal for us on flights.

I'm sure I'll find something to use my points on :)

Is it possible to open one SW credit card and apply the 50,000 points to tickets for 3 travelers? I would be about 5,000 short of getting 3 roundtrip tickets to Orlando but could buy the points or buy two roundtrip tickets, one one-way ticket with points and then pay cash for the additional one-way ticket?

How long do you have before the points expire?

I am trying to get three of us there one points with one card and minimal expense (and then maybe have hubby open up a card and use those points for another trip down at another time possibly!)

Yes, you can do any of those scenerios.

The points do not expire as long as you have a flight or one "partner point earning activity" every 24 months.

I hope you're able to make it work out. Just be aware that the 50,000 promotional points may not be around forever.

thank you!~ We are refinancing and I need to wait until the closing before I add any more credit cards or book vacations-it's making me crazy! The process is so slow since they are super busy with the low rates. I hope I can get the promotion but I fear I have to wait-darn it!
