I live in Charleston, SC and they just announced that Southwest is coming to Charleston within the year!!! Hooray! I am SO excited!! Can you say, "cheaper flights, annual pass and solo trips"? Hurry... someone pinch me... I must be dreaming!!

coming from chicago I can tell you that in the beginning southwest will be cheaper but in the long run they raise prices after they force the other carriers out of the market.

I find SW's fares to be about the same as other low cost airlines (AirTran) but still cheaper than the big names. Even if they were more than others I'd still fly them. I love South West!

True but have you found a consistently cheaper carrier from Chicago to Orlando? In fact, Since they started bilking us with baggage charges Southwest has been way cheaper overall. Better than Spirit... Will
never fly them.

Also keep in mind that not charging for baggage can make a fare that initially looks comparable to other carries cheaper by a lot more in the long run. Southwest doesn't charge you $99 for a flight and then an additional $75 in baggage fees.

southwest has basically driven every carrier out of midway and now have the airport to themselves. I have noticed fares on them have increased over time and was just commenting on that. as for luggage fees who pays them lol

A piece of advice - I fly SWA whenever possible and also use my SW rewards Visa for a lot of routine home and work expenses. This pays off with free flights for my family of four once a year.

I also have had zero bad experiences with SWA. This is not to say that they are perfect. They are, after all, an airline. But compared to other airlines I frequent (I have status with American and USAir as well) they have delivered better value for the money.

To be clear, I get upgraded gratis to first class in the other airlines and I still prefer SWA when I can use them.
