Hi guys,

I am leaving home in a couple of hours for our trip and flying out tomorrow morning at 7 AM. We just tried to check in for our Southwest flight online 24 hours in advance as you are supposed to but it says that we have to go through some sort of Security at the airport.

We are flying out of Detroit and I was born in Canada, and DF was born in El Salvador. Does that have something to do with it?

Everyone boarding an airplane has to go through airport security. Is this your first time flying? If so, it's a very simple process. Before you go through the walk-through detector, any carry-ons you have go on a conveyor belt through a scanner, and you retrieve your belongings on the other side.

Since you're from Canada and your DF is from El Salvador and you're flying out of Detroit, that might result in you two being flagged for an additional check. Basically they'll "wand" you -- that is, they'll check your person with a metal detector wand. It may be an annoyance but not a long one.

Be sure to check the TSA link in the thread stuck at the top of the page for a list of prohibited items.

Have a great trip! :)

Hi there,

Thanks. We fly all of the time and have never had this problem, we also have never had to check in online 24 hours in advance either though.

Hopefully all will go well, I just called the airline and they said that if we have been flagged for security reasons, they can't tell us why for security reasons. :rotfl: Oh well, I'm still going to WDW, I just hope that we get to sit together at least.

And... I'm always the one who seems to beep through the metal thing (not my foreign DF), so if you see a young girl holding up the line, wave!!! It is usually me. :teeth:
