Southwest Flights available NOW through Oct

After stewing a bit over the continued higher SWA rates we have been finding for our dates from PIT to MCO this year, have switched out Oct trip around to become a bucket-list trip of sorts:cloud9:.

Decided to head to the west coast first:D. Reasonable airfare has always been difficult for us to find for our trips there in the past. I found a NS into LAS for $10 more pp than the PIT-MCO route.

After some fun there, onto USH/Knotts/DL for their Halloween activities. Flights from LAS to the various CA airports are very easy to find in $60 range (will use points).

We are flying back to MCO for a few nights at a decent rate that is $30 more a person than rate I had booked back home from MCO for original trip (again will use points).

SWA's pricing model really does appear to be based upon the route vs the 'miles' traveled. For those who have considered visiting DL in the past and are flexible with vacation time, you might want to price out the trip this year.

We've only flown on Southwest once last year, so I'm still learning their way of doing things. We're going to WDW the last week of October, returning November 1st. So our departing flight was released (flying out of Akron/Canton), but not our returning flight in November. Does anyone know when they will release November flights? Also, not real excited about the flight times released for our travel day in October. Does Southwest ever add additional flights to their line up after these first ones were released?

Go to www.southwest.com and over on the right, click on "Flight". A menu pops up and over on the left in the "Flight" column click on "Flight Schedules". On that page you will see the announcement about the next flight schedule release. Keep checking back because they frequently do change the date as they did this time around.

You can also find a link to the Flight Schedules page if you scroll all the way down Southwest's home page. It's in the column of links under "Flying Southwest".

These are the exact flight I would LOVE to have. I am assuming you are traveling Aug 1 and 8. Aug. 1 was part of the last group of flights released. Aug. 8 I know was in the most recent release of flights. However, if you look at the fare calendar for a mere 2 weeks out from your Aug dates...and continuing all the way through October, the number of flights offered on Saturdays is drastically reduced and gone are the NS early mornings and NS late afternoon returns. We are looking at travel Oct. 3 and 10 and the choices are just BLECH!

I was on the SW website at 6am the day the schedule opened and couldn't believe the flight times listed. I went ahead and booked DD and I for $124 (SDF to MCO) on Oct 3rd and $137 (MCO to SDF) on Oct 9th (that flight went up to $178 a few hours later :confused3). I was really hoping for an early morning flight but there was ONLY one non-stop flight that day and it was at 2pm !!!!! We won't arrive at MCO until 4pm :crazy2: so our arrival day is shot. As far as our return flight on Oct 9th, again just one non-stop coming home, leaving at 12:45. I noticed that our Oct 3rd flight is already sold out so I don't guess there's any reason to continue checking for a lower price now :sad2: I'm starting to think that it's just Louisville that gets the limited flights with horrible times. I have to think that SW will open up another non-stop flight that day, the schedule just seems so limited. BTW, there's ALOT of us on the Dis boards that live in and around Louisville so "Hi Neighbor" :wave2:

If you find a time that's acceptable for your going flight and you're ok with the fare, book it. It doesn't matter if they're booked as individual one-way segments. You can book your return flight when it's released in May, or you can choose to book your return with another airline if you want. In my experience, Southwest flights are the cheapest right after they are released. The longer you wait, the more expensive it can become.
