Yesterday I booked our Southwest Airlines flights for Spring Break, 2011 from MSP to MCO.
These are direct flights, which is better than I had hoped, since from the previous schedules it looked as though we might have to change planes in St. Louis.
The flight information says we don't have to change planes, but there is one stop, but doesn't say where that stop will be. I know it doesn't really matter in the great scheme of things, but does anyone happen to know where the stop from MSP to MCO will be? (I assume it would be the same as the return flight from MCO to MSP?)
It looks like the stop would only be an hour or so. I'm assuming we don't have to deplane?
We're new to flying Southwest, so I'm just curious.

This is a guess, but it most likely will be St Louis or Chicago MDW. They other MSP-MCO flights change planes in those two cities, so I am guessing the only difference for your flight is that you don't have to get off the plane.

One way to find out for sure is do a mock booking for your dates from MSP to STL and MSP to MDW. The flight number will be the same and you will be able to see which it is....

Duds

When I flew "direct" from MSP to MCO, we stopped at Midway in Chicago. We had time to get off the plane and get a drink and stretch.

Looking at the route map, from MSP there are non-stops to MDW, STL, DEN & PHX. So try those and see which has your flight #.

That would stink to find out it is PHX! Yuck...... I would put money on it that the flight is through STL or MDW

I would put my money there too, I doubt they would put a one stop to MCO through PHX or DEN!

I did the "dummy" search as suggested, and it looks like it is Chicago - Midway both going and coming.
(I didn't think it would be Phoenix or Denver, since the whole trip with stops is something like 4 1/2 hours.)

I looked at MSP to MCO flights, because I would have sworn that they give the info, and it seems they do. Choose the flight, Continue, and the next page should show it. I chose one for 11/30, and it shows:

#408 Depart Minneapolis/St. Paul (Terminal 2), MN (MSP)
Stops in St. Louis, MO
1:45 PM
Arrive in Orlando, FL (MCO) 7:05 PM

(except the order of the info is a little different on SW screen vs on Dis screen)

Seems the info should be there for you...

I also just booked flights from MSP to MCO for our Spring Break. On the confirmation email that SW sent right after I booked it states on there where the stop is (no plane change). For us it is Midway.

The only thing I can't figure out is how long we will be stopped there????

I checked my son's flights and both stops were 30 minutes. I looked for fares from the original destination to the stop (step 1), and then from the stop to MCO (step 2). When I found his flight number at the stop (step 1), I looked to see what time it landed. When I found his flight leaving the stop (step 2), I lloked to see what time it took off. Since that probably didn't make sense...

Buffalo to BWI the flight arrives at 12:40 and departs BWI for MCO at 1:10.
or
Buffalo to FLL the flight arrives at 3:05 and departs for MCO at 3:35.

Oh Brother!! I should have figured that one out. Thanks for the tip!!

Our stop is 30 minutes as well. However, you would think that would show up on the itinerary somewhere so you don't have to go through all of that just to figure out how long the stop is.

Magicaldisney, did you by chance get the 6:00 a.m. flight?
We did, and I've already let DW know we're going to have to get up at something like 3:30 in the morning to make the flight.

Magicaldisney,

Wouldn't it take some of the fun out of planning if you didn't have to jump through hoops to find the details? Yeah, maybe not :)

We decided to fly out Friday night instead of Saturday morning. We are definitely PM people not AM people!!! We had to add another night at the resort but for us........WORTH IT!!!! :goodvibes

Alright, alright, I'll admit it......I get a rush from the planning!! :woohoo: The more the better!!

bbm...

when i have flown southwest direct flight (twice) we were told we must deplane during the layover. we could, however, leave overhead items onboard and were told anything left at the seat would be chucked.

Did you get to keep your seat, or was it a free for all with passengers getting on at the layover stop?

we kept our "numbers" from the first leg of the flight (a26 or whatever) - so yes, we did the free for all again.

How long was your layover? 30 minutes doesn't seem very long to get everyone off and everyone back on again. We paid for the early bird check in which lets us get on earlier. Do we keep that priority with the layover?
