Southwest credit from price drop question

So, we booked Southwest for our Spring Break Disney Cruise. In October of last year the price dropped and I rebooked, so we have a credit for about $40 for each of us. Now, my question is - do I have to use the money by the date of the credit, or do I just have to have booked a new flight? Does that make sense?

We have a long weekend in October, but it is after the date of the credit (1 year mark). But, if I book the flights now can I use the credit, even though the travel date is after the one year? Or does the travel actually have to occur before that 1 year mark.

Can any one help me?
