Southwest - combine points and cash?

If anyone knows....
I have enough points for two round trips. Three of us are going.
Can I book all three of us online and have the same confirmation number, paying cash for one and points for the others?
If so, do I just try to buy them on points and then it'll charge me for the one I don't have enough for - or do I have to make two separate reservations....

it will require two transactions. You will get an error that says you need more point and a link to buy more points.

Too many. I'd rather earn the points and get the free ticket for the next trip instead of paying for points.
Just trying to avoid the hassle with checking in at the 24 HR mark with two confirmation numbers. Do you think I can have them combined after the purchase? If not, it's not the end of the world....

No way to combine or link reservations, that I know of. You will have to do two separate check-ins. Not bad really, I've done four when booking the whole family on points. A real pain in the return, we splurged for EBCI the next trip.

When you book on points, even if you book for 2 people in one transaction, you get a separate conf # for each person. It is not like when you pay cash and your whole party is on one conf #. I don't know why, but it has happened each time I booked with points.

If you are doing the check-in on a desktop or laptop, you can open 2 windows and set both up ahead of time.

Actually when book a r/t with points you will get two confirmation for each passenger. So for two people you will have 4 confirmation numbers.

So open multiple browser windows and 15 minutes before 24 hr mark load everything in to check in screen and you should be all set to go

Not sure why, but this past August I booked three of us on points for one trip - the whole thing was one confirm number.... Maybe because they were all my points and not my families?

I just booked 2 r/t using only my husbands point and got two confirmation numbers each way.

Just looked at tickets I bought two months ago using DH points and we got separate confirmation numbers.


Maybe if you call they will put everything under one number

Yep you can get EBCI when you use points to buy a ticket. The only thing is that you have to pay by credit card for the EBCI - can't use points for EBCI

We fly on points all the time, we each get a seperate confirmation number. I just have the app loaded on all our devices to check in.
