Southwest changing your flight

I know you pay the difference in fare....... my question is it easy to do online? I am watching closely and would love to switch to an earlier flight if the prices come down...

Yes, very easy, as long as you did not require help booking it. If you did everything yourself online, you can change it. If you did anything over the phone you can't make changes online.

I do this very frequently.

Simply cancel your air and rebook using your old confirmation number.

Note: be sure to keep allof your confirmation numbers! I lost one once and was almost out $115, but Southwest did find it for me!

The credit is good for a year from the purchase date!

all booked online...... I hope to move to an earlier flight into Las Vegas.. Wife and DD are flying a different airline and it would be nice for me at DD to get there a bit earlier!

Don't cancel if you already bought EBCI!! You will lose out on that $$.
Go through the 'change flight reservation' or something like that.

I agree, don't cancel. Do a "change" reservation. The only time you have to cancel and rebook is if you are switching to a Ding fare (do they do those anymore?).

The best thing to do is pull up your reservation and at the top you'll some options to change flights.

Copy you reservation number then click "change flights". Paste your reservation number and your name.

The next screen will ask which flight you want to change. Click the box on the left of the flight you want to change.

Then the option will pop up to select a new date if you want to switch days otherwise click enter.

Now select the new flight in the section that say how can we contact you, enter your contact info.

As you scroll down you will see the payment break down and if you need to pay more I believe that screen is where you enter it.

Credits expire one year from the original purchase date and that means travel must be completed by that date. You can extend the expiration date by six months--for a fee--but you have to wait until they actually expire to do it.

No, one year from today to complete travel using the credit.

You must complete travel within one year of purchase.

And they now charge $75 pp to extend credits. You have until 6 mos post expiration to extend. It's valid 6 mos from the day you extend.

I had 3 of us booked under the same reservation to condense multiple reservations into one then cancelled it. Each of us had $119 in credits. After paying the fee, we each had $44.

These are emailed as LUV vouchers which are not assigned to the initial passenger like credits usually are. LUV vouchers may be pooled and used by one person.

As already posted, you must complete your travel within one year of the original purchase date, assuming you did not use any Travel Funds to pay for that flight. If you did use Travel Funds then the earliest expiration date of any Travel Funds used to pay for the flight is the one that applies.

Ha, I forgot I had started this thread.

For anyone curious about my original post, it is VERY EASY to change your flights online. I did it and paid a bit more in terms of fare, but it was worth not having to change planes....
