South East Beach

We're driving home from Florida late in August. We were thinking of stopping someplace for a day or 2 to break up the drive. We really enjoyed Wildwood, NJ, but that is way too far North. I know Ocean City is similar, but even that is a little further than we'd like to go before stopping. On the flip side, I want to get further North than Myrtle Beach.

So...Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice family beach town between South Carolina and Maryland. We have 5 kids ranging from 2 to 12 yrs old. I'm also interested in a nice place to stay with good ammenities (nice/fun pool).

I would try this:

Atlantic Beach in North Carolina (south of Outer Banks but more conducive to short stays).
Outer Banks beaches (but these are more for longer stays)

Virginia Beach
