South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Jeremy - I agree with what you're saying about making the best choices you can......I just started a little under 4 weeks ago, and travel 2 to 3 days a week for work, having to eat out, etc.....so I just try to do the best I can with what's presented to me

I barely lost anything in the last week (about a quarter of a pound according to the doctor type scale ) I'm hoping it's because I've been working out more and muscle weighs more than fat...how's that for optimistic ! But I haven't been cheating and have only reintroduced cereal (All Bran) and oranges - and sometimes not even both on the same day ! I'll keep plugging and hopefully I'll see a little bigger result next week

Where has everyone gone??? Did we lose you???? I'm doing good maintaining. I find it easier and easier. I know just what to eat and don't gain a thing (although I'm sure all that exercising I do helps :) ) I'm hoping everyone is o.k. out there. Hang in there

I've been enjoying the weight going down...although there were a few blips when I added wheat toast...but I am very conscious of the carbs I do eat and have even added oranges and strawberries without much ado and even a few tortilla corn chips...I've upped my exercise so really do need a few more carbs...Since Jan. 20th I've lost 9.5 pounds...I'm on target to be in the 150's by 4th of July!!! Bring on the fireworks! :)

I'm still here - was waiting for someone else to post after my last one ! Hanging in there pretty well - didn't cheat too badly at the Super Bowl party I was at last night.....was disappointed that I didn't really lose anything last week so we'll see what this week brings....but the pants I"m wearing today seem pretty loose so I am seeing some improvements :)

inches usually come off first. Remember that. The weight will come off too!!!!

Hello again all. Here it goes. My name is Melissa and I am a SB dropout. This will make the third time (hoping three times is the charm) that I am going through Phase 1. But I swear, I am committed this time. I have noticed a definite change in my body and health since I stopped doing SB full time. I have still remained partially on the diet, but since December, I have really had a slide. So here I am. My weight is back up by about 5 lbs, so I am now looking at 15 lbs to my former goal. So just to keep motivated I am saying I want 20 lbs off to be at goal. I figure that will make me work harder. I intend to get back online each day, it really helped me before. I want all this weight off by summer, but my anniversary in April would be even better. So here it goes.
Phase 1, Day 1- I went to the grocery store and stocked back up SB style. I have a ton of veggies in the refrigerator, all cut up and ready to go. I bought lots of nice lean chicken for this week. Some of it is already grilled and ready to go. I am now going to log off to excercise. I excercised yesterday as well, but the diet started today.
Wish me luck. :wave2:

Good Luck Melissa !! I'll be here to support you.....I'm in week 5, 11 lbs down ........ my first intermediate goal is 25 lbs and then I'll try and take it down more from there........keep up with the exercising :) - I've always found it to make a really big difference for me ....

Sandy

Hi All;

Everything is going well here. I made it through the Super Bowl Party without too much cheating. I brought my own snacks to munch on during the game. I did sample some of the other things though but only a little.

I agree with you Sheree'. I tend to alternate between losing more weight or losing more inches. When ones not moving the other is. My weight lost has slowed to an average 1 to 2 pounds a week. But it seems like one week I won't lost any the next I lose 3 1/2. I am also wearing smaller sizes than I did going up through this weight. Over the weekend I bought a pair of 42"x30" jeans that I can actually wear. They are loose fit are a little snug but not too snug to wear.

Hi Melissa. Good luck getting started again. Breaking the goal up is definately a way to keep you motivated.

Good luck Melissa. I have definately found that it's a way of life. I look at it that way, and it keeps me from going backwards. If I was on WW, I would still have to watch what I eat or here comes the weight again. Hang in there. If checking in everyday helps you, please do, someone will be here to push you on.

Jeremy, great job this weekend. I'm not a football fan, so it helps that I didn't eat any of that kind of party food!! I know for some it's hard, but he does allow for those occasional cheats.

Glad to hear from you all. I thought I was on the beach all alone there for a minute :))

Hello, everyone!

Going a bit back to the potatoes discussion -- yes, I remember reading that as well, that if you *have* to have a potato, it's better to have fat to slow down the digestion than to eat a plain baked potato. But I'm with the rest of you -- I've tasted a nibble of potato here and there when I've made them for my family, and the flavor is so bland! I find the same thing applies to pasta -- when I began my weight loss journey, I was so strict with what I put in my mouth that when I made pasta for my family, I would cut a piece in half and look at it to see if it was cooked al dente. Now I'll bite into a piece to check, and I can't believe I used to eat that stuff so often! I've gotten used to the more interesting taste and texture of whole grain pasta.

Jeremy, I think it's wonderful that you're making this way of eating work for you in the real world -- the fact is, it has to, or one meal out would break us! You're striking a fabulous balance between what you want to eat and what's possible at times -- keep on track!

SPB999, 11 pounds is a terrific achievement!! Good for you, and you're absolutely right that muscle weighs more than fat -- if you replace muscle with fat, you may not notice much of a difference in the scale, but there is a tremendous difference going on in your body! Keep checking your measurements regularly, and keep doing what you're doing! (Also, there is no feeling in the entire world to beat the one you get when your pants start going swish, swish around your waist -- savor it, you've earned it!)

Tara, faboo!! You're a lean, mean, fat-burning machine! (Except for the 'mean' part.)

Hi, Melissa!! Good to see you again!! We're here for you whenever you need us!

Sheree, I want you to know how encouraging I find it that you're maintaining your goal weight so well! Sometimes when I picture myself at goal, I get a bit nervous about allowing myself too many indulgences, and suddenly realizing that I've put lots of weight back on. It reassures me so much to see that you can be as committed to maintaining as to losing the weight in the first place.

As for me, I'd been on a bit of a plateau for a few weeks, but over the weekend, I lost 4 pounds!! Unfortunately, it's because I either caught a virus or had food poisoning, and spent Saturday night in the bathroom, desperately wishing I wasn't. Bleah. I only felt bad for a day, thank heavens, and I've been slowing getting my appetite back. Two of the pounds are back, of course, through replacing my fluids, but I'm going to try getting back to exercise tomorrow, and trying to lose more pounds the real way.

Hope everyone has a sensational Monday on the Beach!!

:sunny:

thotfulspot, thanks a lot. I am determined not to allow it back on. I too find that potatoes, pasta and real sugar is just yuck. I do mean yuck. I went out for pasta with my family, and it didn't even taste the same. I ate mostly the grilled chicken that I put on top and the alfredo sauce because the pasta was just not the same. I smell fries and they don't even phase me. I never expected any of this. I know that he says to go back to your old eating just be careful, but I can't do it. I find that food taste so much better now with the new way that I'm eating. I'm getting a great amount of carbs and don't feel the need for all that bad stuff. It's amazing. I know that I can keep this up, as I use the internet for a great source of new receipes and dishes all the time.

Hello Sb er's............ This is my first time on this thread! I am on WISH all the time and involved in most of the challenges...... I may have even chatted with some of you. SO anyway, this is why I am here....... I would like to try SB. I have not ever belonged to any particular diet but I am comfortable with LC lifestyle ( even thought I have heard that SB is NOT a LC diet ) eitherway, seems similar at least the first 2 weeks. SO I have successfully lost about 60 pounds and have gained back about 20. I recently quit smoking and was off of work for about a month ( I am a waitress in a busy rest. ) ABout 10 of those 20 pounds, I swear I have gained in the past 2 weeks soley! I know that sounds extreme but it is true. I know this cause my clothes does not fit me! Anyway, money is a little tight and to be quite honest, I hate to read ( I know that sounds dumb however, I cant find time to read I should say, when I am not working, I am surrounded by my four kids ). Can anyone give me a quick run down of how SB works so I dont have to buy the book? Perhaps, PM ( or email) me a list of allowed foods, rules, etc.
I am off to start a thread besides this one, so everyone can see me request. Just thought, I'd but the word out in this thread! thanks all.

renee

Hi Renee - I'm pretty new to this thread but I can give you the basics (I'm in week 5 of SB). The first 2 weeks is no carbs at all. No bread, cereal, fruit, sugar etc. Most lean cuts of beef, pork are ok. All fish and shellfish are good. Chicken, etc. Most vegetables are foods to enjoy with the exception of potatoes, corn, beets, carrots, green peas (I may be forgetting something but no starchy or sugary veggies allowed) You can snack on nuts (15 almonds, 20 small peanuts, 30 pistachios) and string cheese (part-skim mozzarella sticks) .....I'm sure there are more snacks but that's what I used. You can have sugar free jello or sugar free fudgsicles for a sweet treat among others. After the first 2 weeks you start adding good carbs back in your diet. Many fruits can return except the ones very high in sugar (watermelon, pineapple, etc) Eat the fruit instead of drinking the juice .....the fiber in the fruit will slow the digestion of the sugar. Whole grain cereals and breads are allowed .....(so far cereal and fruit are all that I've added back in)........I know I left gaps but hope that gives you a general idea ! Good luck and we'll be here to help!

Just checking in. Day 2 of Phase 1, so far, so good. Stayed OP and excercised. Off to drink my water and take a bubble bath in Cinnamon Buns Bath Creme.

Hi Renee, most importantly stay away from sweets, breads, pasta, high carbed fruits and veggies. I ate lots of meats, cheeses, green veggies, salads, cauliflower and things like that. I also used some low-carb tortillas like mama lupes or latortilla factory which was great for tacos. If you look up information on sb, there are some great low carb sites with lots of sb diet information. Welcome, and come back. We would love to help you on your journey.

Melissa, wtg. One day at a time is the way I take this WOL.

Hello, Beachers!

My DS turned 8 today, and I am one tired thotfulspot. I just had to pop in and tell you all that I was sorely tempted to have a bit of his cake, and decided that I would go ahead and have a small piece, but first I wanted to have my ricotta creme so that it wouldn't zoom into my bloodstream. Once I was finished with that, though, I was completely satisfied, and didn't even look at the cake again!

Then I was so proud of myself that I came close to nibbling a bit of it after all as a reward, but I said to myself 'First, food is not a reward. Second, I'm going to post about this on the Wish board, and I want to be able to tell them truly that I didn't have any.'

So, thanks for reinforcing my willpower at a distance!

:flower:

Way to stand firm, thotfulspot! :cheer2:
I am at day 4 of Phase 1, no cheating so far. A bit tired, but overall I feel good. I am currently being tempted by the smell of KFC in the kitchen. But I will resist. I must admit, I have never done Phase 1 the whole 2 weeks without a little cheat. I am determined to do it cheat free this time. I have a wedding to attend next month and I am determined to buy a killer dress. So I am off to make a veggie tray for myself and lots of water. I can do this. I can't wait to weigh in tomorrow. I need to lose 20, I hope I made a dent in that.

Way to go Thotfulspot !

When I went out for dinner last night (I travel for work a lot), I ordered steak and vegetables, w/ no potato. Well they brought it with French Fries and I didn't touch one of them ! So it was a similar situation for me...I was proud that I had the will power!

Stay with it Melissa, you're doing great !

Hope everyone is doing well

thotful spot, how wonderful for you. WTG on keeping away from the cake.

Meilissa, keep at it, it does get better and easier.

Sandy, hope all is going well with you and everyone else too. Have a great day.
