South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Well, heck. I was in the middle of posting to this thread last night when my computer crashed. :badpc: It seems to be behaving itself today (heck, we've all been a bit under the weather at one point or another in the last couple of weeks, so why not the computer too?), so apparentally the rest did it good.

Anyway, I wanted to say what Jeremy said about the lemon and lime juice, but he's already said it, so -- what he said.

SPB999, I think avocado is best eaten in small quantities in Phase 1, and the same would go for guacamole. Mmm, guacamole.

Leanne, good to 'see' you again! Good on you for effortlessly maintaining during the holidays, and for your 3-pound weight loss in January!! What a great way to start the year!

Kerri, welcome! The worst is surely behind you now, and congratulations on your loss! How wonderful to be doing this with your husband! Good for him too!

Jeremy, I realize that it's winter and it can be hard to get exercise into your day, but do you really think an indoor swimming pool is necessary? Joke! Joke! Sorry for the aggravation you've put up with, and congratulations for staying on track in very trying circumstances!

Mary, vent away! I'm sorry it's been rough going. One suggestion -- try sitting down and making an eating plan for the whole 2 weeks of Phase 1. Decide what you'll eat on which days and already do the shopping, so you won't be caught short and hungry in the face of temptation. It may help to do what I did at first -- I would repeat to myself 'It's only two weeks. I can do anything at all for two weeks,' and, when pulled towards something I used to eat and couldn't on Phase 1, I would lie like a big rug and tell myself 'I don't eat that anymore. I don't even find it appealing.' Honest to goodness, when I passed through the candy aisle of the grocery store in the early time, I used to avert my face from the chocolate and hiss 'I'm stronger than you. '

Now I don't need to do that, because it's all true -- I don't eat like that anymore, I don't even find it appealing, and I was, am, and will continue to be stronger than some sugary, sticky bar.

Stay tough! You can do it!! If you feel low, come here and tell us, and we'll be here to cheer you on!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Hi all ....I'm in day 3 of Phase 1 and doing pretty good so far.....

I have a question... I thought all fruit was forbidden but a friend of mine said I could flavor things w/ lemon and lime juice .... does anyone know the scoop on this?? Thanks !

What about avocado (and guacamole) ..... I'm on the road and silly me left the book at home.... What was I thinking ? I guess I wasn't! :D

Avocados and guacamole are considered part of the monoundsaturated fats group on the South Beach Diet. They can be eaten in the following portions daily:

Avocado - 1/3 whole = 1 TBS oil
Guacamole - 1/2 cup = 1 TBS oil

As promised, I started South Beach yesterday after finishing the 1/2 marathon on Sunday. I have a headache today and feel light headed, but it's not that bad. I am ready to live a healthier lifestyle and start training for the 2006 1/2 marathon. princess:

Ah, another convert - welcome aboard. Try drinking a lot of water. I remember when I went through it I drank a lot of water and a Diet Pepsi - the caffiene seemed to help.

Txbelle, the headaches do get better. Do drink a lot of water. I mean a lot!!! It helps. Try to watch the carb intake, because if you don't it will slow you down and the headaches will continue.

Four days in and doing ok......thanks for helping me out with my questions.
I will be happy when I can eat cereal for breakfast again .... even if it is All Bran or Fiber one !

I am so proud of myself. I went out to dinner last night with friends, and I had a salad with vinagrette dressing and a small steak with grilled mushrooms. They left the bread basket on the table the entire time, but I did not have a bite.

I am really amazed at how I am not hungry on this diet. This is my third day, and good news--No more headaches! princess:

After 5 days I've lost 3.5 pounds :D I was happy to see some good results!

I'm going away this weekend to visit friends... I'm bringing some of my own stuff so hopefully I will stay on track !

Have a great weekend everyone!

After 3 days, I have lost 3.5 pounds! I need to stop weighing myself once a day (okay more like 2 or 3) and go to just once a week. I feel great, and I am really enjoying the food choices. My DH is so supportive. He has printed recipes and tonight he made the most delicious chili. (He is the chef in the family). I am going to the grocery store tomorrow to stock up on food for the week. princess:

TxBelle, I used to weigh myself like that all the time!!! It will drive you crazy, trust me. Congrats on the 3 pound loss. Sounds like you are doing all right to me. Keep up the good work!

TXBelle I was a daily weigh-in person also. I even charted them in Excel. I would do week over week comparisons of my weight. When I was losing more quickly, going daily allowed me to see patterns in my weight loss (I wouldn't lose or would gain a little over the weekend). I still weight myself frequently 2 or 3 time a week. I still chart my progress. But I don't let it run my life. I know minor changes happen day to day. Early on I would lose 5-6 lb every night and put it back on during the day. My biggest swing during the day was 10 lb lost between going to bed and waking up the next morning.

I know this is 2 post in a row, but just had to post it here. I just got a new clippie. 65lb lost while I've been on wish. The even bigger news is I'm under 300lbs. The scales read 299.8lbs this morning. I posted more in a new thread. This is the lowest I've weighed since I was in College.

Jeremy :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: How wonderful for you. Keep it up, you will make your goal!!!!

Jeremy, woo-hoo!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :cool1: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Sensational achievement!! I hope you're proud of yourself, because you deserve to be!!

:cheer2: :cheer2:

Well I made it through another test ...... got together with some college friends this weekend and was able to stick to water and diet ginger ale while they were having a few drinks .... my friend made a chicken stir fry and in support of me put all the sauces on the side so it was all pretty SBD friendly....I brought my own snacks from home so overall I think I stuck to it ok.....I'm at the end of day 8 of Phase 1 and doing pretty well....

Well after 11 days I'm down 6 pounds so I'm heading in the right direction!
