South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Hi fellow SBDers!

Sorry I haven't been around our thread for a little bit. I will try to check in regularly from now on.

Today was official weigh in day for me and I'm down 2 pounds. What makes these two pounds so special is that I have now lost 75 pounds, earned my 75 pound clippie, reached my third 10% weight loss goal and I'm just 8 pounds from onderland!!! Woohoo!!! This is so exciting!!!

leanne2255 - thanks for the congratulations. That scale challenge was tough. I'm glad it's over but I'm glad I was able to do it. You'll have your 25 pound clippie in no time and please let us know so we can celebrate with you!

Cindy B - welcome to the Beach to you and your husband! Phase 1 will be over soon and you'll be able to add some variety to your diet. Just add the good carbs back slowly. Congrats on the 2 inches lost. Those count just as much if not more than the pounds as far as I'm concerned. My husband does SBD with me and that helps so much. Keep up the great work!!!!

IMGONNABE40! - when I got frustrated with my weight bouncing around, that's when I decided to give up the scale for a while. It did help. You might want to watch those good carbs. The wheat products, as good as they are, can stall some of us for some reason. I had to give up my beloved no sugar added ice cream and other treats because they were contributing to slow weight loss. I have just added back the ice cream but if I see any slow down in my loss again, it will be gone. I'm also trying to really limit my intake of wheat past and wheat bread too. It can make a difference for some reason. Keep up the fine job you are doing and I wish you well with staying off the scale until the 15th! Keep us posted and don't forget the measuring tape is our friend when they evil scale is not cooperating! :teeth:

Carole - I'm not a big blue berry muffin fan but here's a recipe from the lowcarbfriends site you might want to try:

MUFFIN BAKE MIX

Ingredients: 2/3 cup Atkins Bake Mix
4 ounces cream cheese
6 packets artificial
sweetener -- (6 to 8)
2 eggs
1 tablespoon coconut
extract -- or almond,
banana, cinnamon,
whatever

How To Prepare: Soften cream cheese in
microwave for about one
minute. Add remaining
ingredients, mix well by
hand. Spoon into muffin tin
sprayed with Pam. Bake at
350 for 20 minutes.
You can also use this batter
as pancake mix, adding
blueberries and using
vanilla extract.

Thanks for the well wishers.

We broke down and bought a scale today, and well the numbers are great.

The last time I was weighed was the doctors office in May. Here it is August and I am 16 lbs less! 16 lbs!

Ok, I know I didn't loose 16 this first week of SB! I did have oral surgery two/three weeks prior, and it was avery strict liquid diet post - op.

Dh lost 8 lbs first week of SBD!

I have only about 15 to go for goal! I'm totally shocked!

WTG Cindy. 15 pounds left to go is terrific. Hopefully you'll be there in no time at all:jumping1: :jumping1:

Cindy - congratulations on your loss!!! That is just fantastic. You'll be at goal in no time! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I'm still shocked. Thanks for the well wishes!

I did loose some with a very strict liquid diet prior to SBD. It was mostly water and applesauce!

Well, it has been FOREVER since I have been here. I got busy at work after we came back from the Disney trip, and this summer has been so mild here in PA that I am spending more and more time in my workshop. I finally finished the lamp project I had been working on for a LONG time (pix are on my website) and immediately started another. I have been studying for some computer certifications I have to upgrade for work. Soccer season starts soon and my wife is coaching DD's team and I am coaching DS's team (we started practices last night). Then i got a GREAT deal on some white oak lumber, so I have another woodworking project I am about 2/3 of the way through.

So what does all this have to do with weight loss? Not a thing. That is the problem. I am still stuck at 40 pounds. The good news is I have not gained anything either. I have increased the amount of weight I am using in my workouts, and I will probably increase that again next week, as the lifting has started to become easy again - if it isn't making me work hard enough to lift, it isn't enough weight. I am more toned and fit than I have been in years - except for my rotten knees, I am in better shape now than I was when I left the Navy 9 years ago.

Anyway, that is my status. Just thought I would check in and let folks know I haven't fallen off the earth. :D

To all the new folks here - it is really heartening to see such great progress here.

One other thing: LISA - YOU ARE AMAZING!!!! Congrats on the 75 pounds.

Maintaining in PA....

Jerry - It's so nice to see you posting with us again! We have missed ya' guy! It sounds like your summer has been a busy one. Congrats for maintaining your weight loss. From what I understand maintaining is no small accomplishment. We hope you keep us posted more regularly on your progress so don't be a stranger! Thanks too for the encouragement on my weight loss. Sometimes, it's hard for me to get my mind around the person I'm seeing in the mirror, it's a bit freaky. But, I've come this far and it's people like you who give me support that make this journey easier and make me believe I can get to goal! :wave2:

Hi

Hoping I can join the group. I am a 48 year old mother of 2 daughters (20 and 16). We live with my husband in the Chicago area where I am a cast member for the Disney Stores (second time with them).

I have been struggling with weight since puberty. Right now I am heavier than ever before and hate it. Just got back from Disney World and this is the first time I have struggled to keep up with my family's pace. It was very upsetting to say the least.

Along with the weight (171lbs - can't believe I actually am writing this) I have arthritic knees. So the weight has to come off this 5'1" body soon!!

Help!! I have tried to do it alone and can't - I am an emotional eater and am looking for a friend.

You guys seem so nice and hope you will include me in your group.

Thanks!!

chrismiss56 - welcome to WISH and to the SBD thread!!! Are you on Phase 1? It's tough at first but once you get past the first 4 or 5 days, you will feel fantastic! If you are looking for support, you have come to the right place. We would all love to help you get to your goal. There is just one thing though, you have to post often so we can get to know you. We want to be able to share your triumphs and woohoos with you! The clippies you can earn on WISH are so addicting. I just can't wait to earn my next one. I was an emotional eater of the worst kind and SBD has helped with that problem so much. I'm also a shorty and the same height as you. This way of eating does work! It really does and I am just one of the WISHers here that is living proof of that! I started WISH 8 months ago at 282.5 pounds, wearing a size 26 jeans. I have not only lost 75 pounds but over 70 inches and currently wear a size 14 (Lane Bryant) jeans. I'm just thrilled with this program! The encouragement and inspiration available on WISH is priceless. To give yourself even more encouragement that you can do it, check out the journal board. Many wishers keep journals of their progress (I've got one over there too). It's encouraging to read other peoples struggles and accomplishments. Sorry, didn't mean to write a book. Just really wanted to warmly welcome you! The water at the Beach is fine so jump right in and let us get to know you better! :sunny:

Thanks so much for the warm welcome!!

I have not actually started the SB Diet.....but then again yes I have and struggled in Phase 2........So I am trying again but I think in a more modified way. I love the philosophy of the SB but I struggle with emotional eating when I stress I go for salt and crunch as in potato chips.

BUT I WANT TO WORK AT IT> My goal is a healthier eating lifestyle which includes alot less carbs and SMALLER PORTIONS. I eat enough for 5 people.

Just had lunch - bowl of salad with tuna and blue cheese dressing - actually a normal portion along with 8 baked pita chips.....and 1/2 of a small apple. Sounds healthy yet I am still hungry!!

I am determined to do it..........and I might start a journal...sounds like a good way to keep my fingers busy when I would rather be eating.

Thanks for all your support.:wave2: :wave2:

You are more than welcome! Your lunch sounds healthy. A couple of tricks I use for the munchy monster are: water, water, water! Seriously, I try to drink 100 ounces per day - or more. Also sugar free gum is wonderful because it gives your mouth something to do and tricks it into thinking it's eating something. Also don't forget snacks. If you have a decent breakfast, mid-day snack, healthy lunch, afternoon snack, dinner and on plan dessert, that is a lot of food spread out through the day and sometimes I can't fit it all in.

I won't say I have never been hungry between meals because I have. When I feel like that, I play the "wait a bit" game. Sometimes at night, especially if I've had an early dinner, I get really hungry later in the evening and I lay in bed thinking, okay obsessing about food. I tell myself to "wait a bit" in a few hours I'll eat a yummy and filling breakfast. Then I get up and have whole wheat cereal, scrambled eggs with cheese and breakfast meat. Yummy. Anyway, just a few suggestions for when the munchie monster hits ya'!

I think starting a journal would help you a lot. It has helped me more than I thought it would. I actually thought keeping a journal was silly at first. Now I'm hooked!

Have a great and healthy eating evening! :teeth:

Thanks for the advice......Look for my journal in the next few days and I am very excited to be a part of this board:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

chrismiss56- Just wanted to add a warm welcome to you. Our group definately has room for one more and if you look at all our clippies, we are doing quite well. LIsa has given you some great advice and I just wanted to say welcome:wave2:

Thanks Sheree...........

By the way my name is Linda and thanks for letting me hang out.

Just wanted to bump us up a little bit. Thursday is my day to weigh, and I am down 24 lbs. One more to go for the next clippie. This journey from 20-25 lbs seems long. I'm looking at about a 1 lb per week loss after the initial "whoosh". I'm happy with that, because now, I do not feel this is a diet but more of a way of life.

My next mini-goal is a total loss of 30 lbs before our trip to WDW in October. I am fairly confident that I will make that.

Hope everyone has a good week. Welcome to all of the new members.

Howdy, fellow Beachers!

Today is the last day of my vacation and we were going to be heading back this evening, but we thought it would be more fun to check into a hotel and watch the hurricane out of the windows. Actually, of course, the point is that the flight (out of Orlando) was cancelled, but we drove up from Sarasota yesterday and checked into the Dolphin. We're set up nicely with lots of things to eat (whole wheat pitas, pistachios, and apples, as well as chips, cereal, and raisins for the carb eaters in the family, and kind of excited about the evening to come.

Hurricane Charley aside, I'm moderately pleased with myself for my vacation eating. I had allowed myself one cheat per week, and only really did it once -- major pizza feast one night, but even that was thin-crust cheese or veggie pizza, and it was worth it worth it worth it. Otherwise, I may have gone a tad bit nuts on the sugar-free Popsicles and Fudgesicles, and I may have had an eensy bit too much Ben & Jerry's Carb Karma chocolate ice cream, but what the hey -- it was vacation, and I don't have access to it all normally, so it's not the beginning of a bad trend or anything. My clothes do feel a bit tighter than at the beginning of the trip, but I've decided to go back to Phase 1 for a week once we're back.

I did try a ricotta creme one day, and all I can say is: bleah. I'm assuming the ricotta that I can normally find in Germany is just way yummier than in America, but America is still the greatest nation on the face of the planet.

I'll check back in and catch myself up in the next couple of days. I hope everyone's having a great time on the Beach!

Howdy to all. Sounds like great successes since I have been away (from my computer). Well, here it is the 15th and I did stay off of the scale. I am back down those two pounds. I KNOW I have been eating too much--all within plan (except for some yummy bread one day) but just too much on the good carbs. I think I will try to modify that to see if I can get these pounds down. Oh yeah--a dear friend of mine sent me a box of choclate covered cranberries from her trip to Nantucket. I have been popping several of those a day also! I will have to get them out of eyesight.

Finished phase 2!

I can eat normally again (well within reason)

Total weight loss (combined with oral surgery post op diet)..

20 lbs!!!!

Yes, 20 lbs.

And I have lost 4 waist inches, 2 "other" inches, and hips 2 inches.

I am running out to the store to buy some fruit!

IMGONNABE40-glad your back down. It is hard not to overeat isn't it. I have to constantly watch myself.

Cindy, great job. 20 pounds is terrific!!!! You must feel wonderful. Keep up the good work:thewave:

My DH and I just started SB. Me on friday, him on sat. I am really sick of eggs already!! I tried Atkins but just felt bad on it. Only lasted 4 days due to the way I felt... SB seems a bit easier to do.
I am having a terrible time with sweet cravings.... Is there any thing you can suggest to help with this? I am not a huge sweet eater usually, but do have ice cream and chocolate occassionaly.... I am also missing the bread and cereal! Sigh.
We really want this to work and I need to loose at least 15-20#... I did measure, but have no scale at home (not that I would be jumping on it every day anyway!).
I am pushing water and usually get around 100 oz a day maybe a bit more.
I did try the vanilla creme recipe in the diet book. It really isn't too bad if you can get past the texture.... reminds me of dried pudding :(
THanks.
Cathy
