South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Welcome. It does get better with the sweet cravings believe it or not. It does help if you don't eat too much sweets or they won't go away. Try some low carb ice-cream or a piece of russel stover's candy. They are very good

Come back here for any encouragement that you may need, we are always here

Thanks Sheree',
I didn't really want to "cheat" during phase 1. I am doing better the later it gets and I am keeping busy :)
Thanks.
I know I can do it :D
Cathy

I just got off phase 1 and I am sick of eggs!

I made some Spinach quiche cups, and that was really helpful.
I had those for breakfast instead of eggs.

I am looking forward to having some pistachio bark tonight for dessert.

Yes, the sweets cravings do go away. I don't crave as much, and we are having sugar free jello which helps.

I didn't really cheat at all during phase 1

Do you LIKE those spinach quiche cups? I made them too and haven't had the willpower to actually bite into one (man they look disgusting!).
I might try some sugar free jello.... I don't really like jello...
THanks.
We had a great day today with no cheating at all. I did find the cravings were less if I was busy.
THanks for the support.

Cathy

Ok, I am sure I have joined this before but I am serious now. My Fiance and I have started this diet together today. I spent all afternoon yesterday cooking and cutting up veggies for the next few days.

My parents are also doing this back at home.

I am getting married in 55 days and Ihave my dress fitting in three and half weeks. I would like to lose 10lbs in the next few weeks..... Hopefully we can do that... if not I will be happy with anything.

I only have about 20lbs to lose total, that I would be happy with. I guess I really should lose about 35lbs but I honestly don't think I can be that small. I am 5'6" and weigh 162.2 right now.

I feel really good about this now. Bought tons of "good" food yesterday and really feel like I will be able to do this now.

I am not going to be the only one of four to quit. I am worried about Fiance because he is a carb hound. Looking over his diet this weekend and he eats nothing but carbs all day, bagels, granola bars, wow chips and a sandwich or pasta for lunch... he will really do well on this I think! :) He isn't big on veggies but hopefully I can get him to try some... he loves salad though!

I will stick arond this time!

I want to give a warm welcome to the Beach to Cathy! We are happy to have you with us.

I used to eat the quiche cups in Phase 1 and I added bacon pieces to mine and they were pretty good.

I chew sugar free gum and that helps a lot with the sweet tooth. Also, Lifesavers makes sugar free candy and I enjoy the butter toffee. Yummy and just a couple do the trick and it's perfectly legal too!

I did some shopping this weekend and so pleased to fit into clothes that are so many sizes smaller than what I was wearing just 8 months ago! I'm feeling a little down today but life is good on the Beach nonetheless!

Have a great afternoon everyone.

Hello everyone. Just checking in. It is so quiet around here it's amazing.

I have been doing good on the beach. I have upped my weights and it's definately beginning to show. My weight loss is slow, about a pound a week now. That's all the muscles I'm developing. I am also officially an 8. When I go into the store to try on a 10, they don't fit. So, I am feeling so accomplished. Looking to go buy some new clothes now:teeth: I even tried on a size six and I'm really close:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Just 10 pounds to goal

I actually liked the spinach cups. I think I did add a piece of turkey bacon as well to it.

My DH liked them as well. They were very filling, although they looked small.

I used fresh spinach if that matters any.

I made Lemon Couscous Chicken last night (Phase 2) and everyone LOVED it! My kids, my DH and I!

Thanks for the welcome. I know I will be able to do it if I put my mind to it.
I tried the spinach quiche cups.... I think it needs some bacon :)
Can't chew gum because of TMJ, but will check out the candy. I didn't think we were supposed to use any of that stuff the first stage?
I am going after a treadmill tonight :) Gonna get healthy if it kills me ;)
THe lemon chicken sounds great. Something to look forward to ::yes::
Only 9 days to go:p
Thanks again everyone!

I forgot, we had the 'mashed potatoes' tonight made with califlower. NOt too bad!

You can do it. I didn't and still don't have gum or candy. I have had sugar free jello and pudding for dessert. I also made pistachio bark.

I didn't miss bread after the third or fourth day.

I found something to fix my sweet craving. I took almonds and sprayed butter (the parkay kind) on them, then put them in splenda and cinnamon and baked them a while. PERFECT snack for me.
I am doing pretty well. DOn't have the bread craving anymore and really am not craving sweets so much (course have had the almond snacks some). I have lost 6# already :)

Staying busy sure helps~

I so wish I knew about this a month ago!

I have been on the South Beach Diet for 4 weeks.

I am in week 3 of Phase II and have lost officially 13 pounds, but I am down 15 pounds (my weigh days are Mondays--but I cannot resist those daily checks :) ) I have 10-15 more to lose--but since I haven't weighed that low since when I was still growing taller--I am not sure what I will look like.

I have found so much help from my other support boards--but wish I had seen you guys sooner.

Haven't read the posts yet--but I will start reading soon!

If you have any questions, post away!

I am training for the Disney Marathon as well--I have already added back in all my portions of grains and fruits and use beans for the carb and fiber boost to my day. Any others training for the 1/9/05 full or half marathon?

My stats are 151/138/120-125 and I am 5'5".

I am peeking through the posts and someone asked about paying to join Southbeachdiet.com

I found the South Beach diet message boards at www.prevention.com to be full of so much information and they are FREE :)

Just wanted to share this tip--sorry if I am repeating.

Lisa loves Pooh, welcome:wave2: . We love new people. Thanks for the tip about prevention. I usually use low carb friends, but it's great to know that there are more helpful chat boards out there.

13 pounds is terrific!! It is a great way to eat good food and lose weight isn't it. My guess is that you're in phase 2. I love the variety of foods available. Keep coming back, we'd love to hear from you

My DH and I are doing very well at the start of week two. I have lost 6# and he has lost inches (didn't weigh himself before). We both love love love mex food and chips and salsa. Is there any way to justify eating some chips with salsa if we were to go out to our fav mex rest?
I know we can eat salsa here at home with veggies or just plain, but wondered about the chip aspect?

Thanks.

crz4mm2, congrats on the weight loss so far. 6 pounds is great:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Now as far as the mexican food goes, I would be really careful. I grew up in San Antonio, and you can imagine I really miss mexican food. There are some low carb tortilla chips out that are really terrific. Look for them with the low carb doritos. It would be safter for you to buy and eat those than going out to eat for them. I have found that I can make nachos, queso dip and eat them with salsa and I don't stall on my weight loss. If you feel like you just have to have them, eat them sparingly because you don't want the weight to come back on

Thanks Sheree! I am feeling pretty good about it. I know that it would be better not to have any at all and know that IF we do go out to eat it would only be a VERY few if we did eat any.
I will stay home another week :)
THanks for the support. Just off 15 minutes of treadmill. Doing better with that too up from 4 minutes the first day last monday!!
Thanks again!!
Cathy

anytime Cathy. We've all been where you are. It is so hard to let go of some of your favorite foods, and then you see the weight come off and you don't miss it anymore

It is best to postpone "cheating" until phase 2--and only when you are well into it :) If you have grains or fruit in phase 1 you can mess up your detox period and basically fall off of the wagon.

Remember, South Beach isn't a "low-carb" diet, but a "good carb" diet. The corn chips will ALWAYS be a bad carb even if the package or restaurant calls them low carb.

When it does come time for cheating and you are prepared to handle it, it is always best to cheat with a sugar stopper--that is a protein, fiber, or fat.

So in other words--if you are going to a Mexican restaurant--much later in your endeavors--snack on some nuts at home before you go...that way you won't eat as much chips--and the chips you do it will have the digestion slowed so as not to cause a spike in the blood sugar.

Congrats on your success thus far!

Very hard to let go of some of those things. I am much better this week about the sugar cravings. I did make some almonds with cinnamon and splenda and baked in oven. VERY good and settle any craving for sweets.
We had a lovely salad for lunch :) No chips.
Yes, I know it is all about good foods. Still miss the salsa and chips though :)
THanks.
