South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Can someone give me the basics to this? I don't look at it as a diet (something I don't believe in because once you stop "dieting" you typically gain the weight back) but as a new way of life. I honestly detest working out, but will get on the treadmill a couple of times a week (just don't want to do it every day). I also don't like diet drinks. What are other options? I have about 40 lbs. to lose and it's time. Now a big question for me is...does anyone have IBS that's on this? I have it and many vegetables and salads will set it off. I can't tell you the number of times that I've barely made it to a restroom after eating a salad. This concerns me, however, I love salad. I just get concerned eating it out somewhere. Has anyone found this to exacerbate (?sp) IBS?

Hey Michelle, there is fruit on SB. Can you drink vegetable juice. They could be a good way to get in those vitamins. It may be worth your while to get the book which is also in paperback so you don't have to get the hardcover. You may want to consult your doctor too. Good luck with your lifestyle change. Oh and one thing I discovered this week, cheese curls are not on it! ;)

Hi Michelle and welcome to SB!

I think you can do this with IBS. The nice thing about SB is that you can choose what foods you want to eat. They do offer meal plans in the book, but I really did my own thing. I went by the recommended food lists for phase 1 and then phase 2, and chose what I wanted to eat based on that.

If salad and veggies don't work for you, you can certainly do V8 juice, just like S&K'smom said. If you don't like diet drinks, you can stick to water, skim milk, iced tea, coffee, etc. Diet drinks aren't even preferred on SB, but Dr. Agatson allows them.

Good luck and keep posting!

Hi Calena - I know what you mean about social functions. I do what you do, fill up on the stuff I know is "on program" and either skip or take the polite spoon full of the other stuff. If I am going to a "carry-in" or "pot luck" I always try to bring something that I know I can eat. Sometimes it a salad and sometimes it a dessert.

Hi MichelleB - Welcome to the group. I think you will find most of us here are trying to make this a lifestyle change as opposed to just a diet. As far as the diet soda, if you still want soda, experiment around, there are several new flavors and varieties of diet soda out there. I'm not a big Diet Coke fan but I do like the new Coke Zero. They also have Diet Coke with Splenda but I think it's too sweet. If you haven't tried one with Splenda, try it. It may take some time to find the right one for you.

Hi all Todoay is my 1 year anniversary here on wish and wanted to thank you all for your support and encouragement. I posted a thread on the main WISH page with photos for everone to see.

Congratulations, Jeremy! You have done so amazingly well on WISH and on South Beach! You're such an inspiration. :cheer2:

I just wanted to give an update on my 1st month on South Beach. I have lost 11 lbs. I only have 9 more to go before our WDW trip in Dec. I hope I can lose 3 lbs. a month. I love reading this thread. You all have been so helpful.

4 pounds in week one!

I am re-starting SBD, and I had not completely fallen off the wagon, so I knew my first week loss wouldn't be as much as my first week when I originally did the diet. But that's ok. Loss is loss, right?

Funny...I barely had cravings the first time I did Phase I, but this time it is brutal!

What are everyone's ideas for phase one snacks?

I definitely eat way too much LF cheese and nuts, so I need to cut that back...ideas? I'm a vegetarian (no meat or poultry, but I do eat eggs, dairy, and fish...despite what my tags says! LOL)

how about jello, sugar free popcicles or fudgecicles. I wasn't a big snacker, so it's harder for me to think of snacks. I'll do more research on it, meanwhile maybe someone else can give you an idea of what they ate! Congrats on the 4 lbs. That's 4 lbs that will (hopefully ;) ) never return!!!

 Hi, South Beachers. I thought I'd grab my new clippie here since it was this and pearlieg's journal that inspired me to lose 10 pounds since May!!!! Most of it has been since I started South Beach. :cool1: :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

Okay -- I only have 32 more pounds to go to make it to where I want to be. :teeth: Hopefully I'll lose a lot of it before our December trip to WDW. I'd like to look skinny standing next to Mickey! :earsboy:

And, whoo-hoo to everybody who's been losing weight! Way to go!

A snack I enjoyed during phase one/two was the spreadable Laughing Cow cheese on celery. It helped to fill me up. I ate the chocolate ricotta dessert most nights. We also eat a lot of turkey bacon. I like Louis Rich brand.

Now on phase two, I eat one tablespoon of regular Crunchy Jif PB. It isn't LF or low sugar and I'm still losing weight. I can't give up everything if I want this to be a way of life! :rotfl: The FF/SF Jello pudding has helped my husband with his sugar cravings.

Congrats on the new clippie. I'm sure you'll reach your goal for your December trip.

Hi Everyone. I am one of those who also got lost and could not find my way back to the beach. I put back on 10 of the 30lbs I lost. :confused3 Don't know how I could let that happen. All I can say is STRESS is an evil thing. But I have a Disney cruise coming up this November, and I am determined to get my weight off before then. I am so happy to see all the "faces" I remember from before doing so well, as well as all the new Beach buddies. I hope you have room for a drop out to drop back in again.
Today is day 1 of Phase 1 (for the 6th time, ugh!) I have done very well today, no cheating. I intend to get through Phase 1 with no cheating for the first time ever. My goal is to lose 15 lbs before my cruise, but 20 would be awesome. I just need some support to get my butt in gear.
Congrats to all on their losses!
