South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Forgive me Southbeachers for I have sinned. Oh my God I dived right off today but it was DS' party and I enjoyed myself. Plus tomorrow is the lake so forget that. I think I'll do a few days of Phase I next week to get back on track.

tsk, tsk, but what is life without a few indulgences???? Have fun tomorrow!

Hi,

I'm joining your SB thread. My DH and I are both children of diabetics and I was looking for a lifestyle change for our eating habits. We want to head off the disease if we can. I think the SB diet is wonderful. It is a perfect balance of fats and carbs. I don't feel deprived.

We've been on it for 3 1/2 weeks. I have so much energy. I am amazed at how great I feel. I love that my 3 children are joining in with us on most meals. We're eating more fish and lots and lots of veggies.

Does anyone know if the new White bread by Sara Lee is legal. It claims that it is a NEW "whole grain" White. That is the one thing that my husband missed dearly.

Thanks,

Lori

Welcome to the the beach Lori !
I'm happy to hear that you and your husband are having success on SB and that your whole family is eating better as a result as well.....sorry I don't have an answer for you on the white bread but maybe someone else will know

Welcome Lori!!! It is a wonderful plan to be on and you do feel great. So many of us here are having great successes!!! We are loving life on the beach.

I'm not sure either about the bread. Check the lables and the ingredients to make sure that it is SBD friendly. Staying away from anything with sugar in it. If it passes the criteria, then I say have it. However, don't over induldge, or that might put you back in a position of not losing weight!!

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

Thanks for the warm welcome! :flower:

We went to Cracker Barrel for lunch after Church. I was thrilled to see an entire section of the menu devoted to low carb entrees. My DH got the Spicey Grilled Catfish with a salad, turnip greens and a small portion of pinto beans (he didn't eat all of them). I had the steak salad. It was a good meal.

Any other good chain restaurants out there?

Lori

Just joining this thread.

I started on the Beach in Sept. 04 to get ready for our Fall WDW trip...didn't want to look like Dumbo in all of the pics!

I needed to lose 25 pounds. Took the first 10 pounds off in a snap, so felt great going to the World. I took another 5 pound off by Thanksgiving 04. Looking good and feeling great.

Then the holidays came. I didn't lose, but I managed to maintain, so I was happy with that.

Once I was in "maintenance mode" is when the trouble began. I never "seriously" got back on the plan. Sure, I was only eating whole grain breads, etc., but I wasn't working the plan, so slowly but surely, I started to put some pounds back on.

The good news is that I only put 5 pounds back on. So, now I have 15 to go until goal.

Why is it that those 10-15 last pounds never seem to come off?!?!?

I am trying to get back on the plan, but each day I say "Today it is back to Phase 1" I don't make it. Or I'll make it for 2 days and then just bag it. It's not even that I'm having cravings...I think I might just be bored with the program.

Anyone have any directions to the Beach? I'm lost and can't find the way back!

Thanks!

Lori, most definately. You can go anywhere and get a good salad. Don't forget about TGI Fridays. I go to any steak place and find a good meal, I just always get veggies instead of potatoes. Subway is good to go, and so is Popeyes with their naked chicken strips.

3disneykids, you just have to do it. My biggest motivation was just thinking do I always want to look like this. Do I want to waste another day. I felt like Yoda, do or do not, there is no try! :rotfl: You have to find the motivation. Everytime you feel like giving up, come here and let one of us help you. Look at that piece of food and ask do I need this. Go online and look up all the great receipes that are available. I've been doing this since Jan. of last year. No boredom. I keep looking for new things to try. I've been maintaining sicne Oct. of last year, and I know that it can be done. Good luck on your journey, and I really hope well hear back from you and that you've made it :cheer2: :cheer2:

Oh I am so back on maintenance. Holy smokes I just blew it totally yesterday and I felt so gross, all the sugar have me such a headache. I finally understand how food is addicting. I was like an addict that had been in withdrawal and found a stash.

Thanks for your positive note! My motivational phrase is....

Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.

And this is so true. When I was my ideal weight, I felt great all the time, never had to stress when getting dressed, etc. Literally any old thing I threw on looked great.

Ok, got my beach bag packed and I'm off!

s&k'smom, that's why I don't cheat!!! It makes me feel so horrible. Even at maintaing, I just can't do it. It effects my workouts, my sleeping and everything!!!!

3disneykids, welcome. I can't wait for you to start positing about your weight just coming off!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all
Everything is going well here. This week was a down week. I'm almost back to my lowest weight from 2 weeks ago. I'm still just plugging along. Saturday went to an all day outdoor Christian concert in Mansfield OH with a couple of youth from the church. We packed a cooler to save money. One of the youth was kidding me a little because I had my lunch meat on whole wheat bread instead of a sub bun. It was just good natured ribbing. The kind you get between friends. All the youth have been impressed with my progress and how much more I'm able to do with them now.

3disneykids- Welcome. Sound like you just need to bear a little bit to the left and you'll be right back on course towards the beach.

Hey everyone. I've been trying to get back to the beach for about a month now. But, summer allows for a lot of cheats (fudge from the fair!).

I'm back to school now and have a room full of kids. Am I blowing it with my Low Carb Slimfast for breakfast? Does anyone use that for some of their meals?

I'm trying to incorporate South Beach principles along with eating every 3 hours and exercising daily.

The exercise daily is tough to schedule in now that I'm back to work. Does anyone use a home elliptical? Can you recommend one that won't break and gives you a great workout?

I exercised EVERY day for about 4 weeks. I only lost 1 lb. Was doing SB most of the time (with some cheats).

Did I make a mistake with the exercising? Should I stop for a while and concentrate on just food?

I think that exercising in the evening now that I'm back to school will actually help me stay on plan for dinner and late snacks. That's been my downfall this summer, I think. I do well in the AM and at lunch. It goes to pot about 5 p.m.

Karin

Karin, it's the cheating. The exercise is good for you and will really pay off for you. I would say you have to stop the cheats. They will hinder the weight loss. No matter how much exercise you do, it won't help if you aren't eating right.

I don't know about slimfast, I've never used it. I do use the frim shakes, as they are extremely healthy. Maybe someone else can help you there.

hey karinbelle, I know what you mean about schedules my sister is a teacher and her schedule is nuts. It's easier to get a hold of her by email once school starts. I wish I had some advice for you but I'm thinking maybe more cardio to burn more fat. I wish I could tell you about a bike it may be worth your while to check out a few stores that sell these types of bikes. Good luck.

Hi everyone and welcome to those just joining us on the beach! :wave2:

I haven't posted in about a week. I had a birthday and "treated" myself to a lunch out with mom and a piece of birthday cake. I stepped on the scale on Monday morning and hadn't gained but hadn't lost anything either. However, I bought a bike for my birthday (love biking around Fort Wilderness with the kids!) and the last 2 nights I've been going on bike rides just before it gets dark. That's really the only halfway cool time to be outside in Florida!! :teeth: So, I stepped on the scale tonight (not usual for me, as I typically only weigh myself once a week) and I was down two pounds!

I'm still doing pilates about 2 or 3 times a week which is a good 25 minute workout, and I think that's helping.

3Disneykids: I know what you mean about saying "today, I'm going back to phase 1" and then not doing it. I tried to do that this week, and it just didn't fly. I don't know why sometimes I'm more ready than others. But, I just went back to my normal routine on phase 2, and that seemed to work just fine. Good luck!!

It's awesome to hear about everyone's successes!

This is gonna be a tough night as we are going to Cape Cod for the night so I'm really gonna try to be at least half way good! I'm hoping I'll at least not have a food hangover, see you guys tomorrow.

I lost another pound! :cool1: I am wearing a loose pair of size 8 pants this morning. Feels so good. I seem to be so slow loosing now - just 3 lbs in August, but I am going down! I keep telling myself this will help keep it off! I have reved up my exercise routine with walking and jogging now that it is a bit cooler again, and I can see the difference in my body. So maybe I am gaining muscle too, but I have also "cheated" with social functions etc a bit, but I really keep it in check and try to stay as close to the Beach as possible. For example, if we are at someone's house for dinner, I won't eat the potato/rice but I will eat some dessert. I just fill up more on the veggies and protein and am able to refuse the other stuff more. I also make sure that when I am controlling the meal plans I do the South Beach Phase II plan. I also look at the GI of stuff and if I am going to cheat try to do it that way. Otherwise, lots of veggies - yesterday had a great veggies omelet for lunch and I was so full I just had salad for supper. That is easy with so many summer veggies right now!
I'm off to the real beach tommorrow. I was hoping to have my 20 lb loss but I am at 19 and I will take it. Looking forward to swimming - hopefully not with sharks! - and long walks and jogs on the beach. CAN'T WAIT. Going to Cape Hatteras. I ordered a new swimsuit which has not arrived. If it does, I am wearing it! ;)

Well let's just say I left the Cape at least a pound or two heavier but boy did we have fun. I'm exhausted!
